World Socialists: New York Mayor Bill de Blasio Isn’t Quite Socialist Enough

Good news for those who live and work in New York City. Mayor Bill de Blasio has been in office for just about a month and already things are changing.

The New York Post reported that the murder rate in New York City is up 33% in one month, since comrade de Blasio took office.

A source within the city’s police force told the Post, “This is the residual effect of de Blasio’s backlash against stop and frisk. Cops aren’t stopping people and taking guns off the street, which emboldens the criminals.”

However, the good news is that robberies are down 15%. Another police source explained that, “Robberies are down because it’s too damn cold to go out and rob someone. When it warms up, the number of robberies will go up too.” Ah, spring in New York City. Can’t wait!

Want more good news from the Big Apple? On Monday, Bill de Blasio declared that the city’s public schools will be closed for at least two Muslim holy days. Wonderful! Typical of liberal short-term thinking – I’m sure no thought was given to this decision – other than the feel-good political correctness of the gesture.

I’m sure Comrade de Blasio didn’t give a thought to the can of worms he just opened. I wonder – does he think this gesture will satisfy the “Muslim community”? And what of the other dozens if not hundreds of “residents” from various countries and ethnicities represented in that school system? Has he even considered that these groups will now come forth and demand their holy or uniquely ethnic holidays be added to what is sure to be an ever-growing list of school vacation days?

Thus far, the commie Mayor has the support of most liberal rags like Times, the Washington Post and Huff Po, but even de Blasio can’t please every leftist, it seems.

One such publication is the “World Socialist Web Site.” These folks are to the left of Marx, and not Groucho. Their latest piece written regarding the Mayor was entitled, “New York’s Progressive Mayor De Blasio Continues Right Wing Policies.” Seriously? Who knew the comrade was a Tea Partier?

They claim that his announcement to force private companies to provide at least five sick days to employees is insufficient. He even knocked the threshold down from a 20 employee minimum to only five. Apparently, this is a right-wing policy.

They went on to whine about a lack of “affordable” housing, no publicly funded pre-kindergarten and a general lack of education funding throughout the city. Yes, I guess $20,000 per student just isn’t cutting it and that is, by far, the highest in the nation. Yet it doesn’t satisfy those at the World Socialist Web Site.

The article even pointed out something I was unaware of. It exclaimed that the New York Times, who supported Bill de Blasio is… wait for it… “The leading organ of American capitalism.” You learn something new every day.

So I guess for you saps that live and work in New York City, it could be worse. Your Mayor could be Fred Mazelis, the author of the column.
