Less than a week from today, the liberal leftists of Congress will be “grilling” Robert Mueller on the witness stand in front of the nation.
Their hope, as has been their hope for years now, is to somehow delegitimize President Donald Trump through the proceedings. They believe that Mueller and his 440+ page report on Russian election meddling will transform their anti-Trump vitriol into a legitimate concern over the President’s alleged “obstruction of justice”.
They forget, of course, Mueller has already indicated that his testimony will contain no new information, and will refer exclusively to the written work already made public.
Still, the democrats are demonstrably determined to diss The Donald, and they’ve already let the world know what it is that their going to focus on come Thursday, the 24th.
Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee who will question former special counsel Robert Mueller next week plan to focus on a narrow set of episodes laid out in his report, an effort to direct Americans’ attention to what they see as the most egregious examples of President Donald Trump’s conduct.
The examples from the Mueller report include Trump’s directions to White House counsel Donald McGahn to have Mueller removed and, later, orders from Trump to McGahn to deny that happened. Democrats also will focus questioning on a series of meetings Trump had with former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski in which the Republican president directed Lewandowski to persuade then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions to limit Mueller’s investigation.
The hearings will likely be contentious incidents, with republicans almost certainly planning to glean information regarding the impetus of the RussiaGate investigation itself; particularly in the case of the FISA warrant that was issued in order for the FBI to surveil the 2016 Trump campaign.
