One of the major changes to the way we handle this strain of coronavirus will come in the form of face masks, which were previously not recommended for use for those who weren’t already sick. Now, after careful review, the White House appears ready to adjust that guidance.

The White House is expected to urge Americans who live in areas of high coronavirus transmission to wear cloth face coverings to prevent the spread of the virus, a senior administration official told NBC News on Thursday night.

He said the new guidance, based on “consultation and advice from the CDC and top health experts,” would come “in the days ahead.”
The distinction of specifying “cloth” face masks will also reduce the strain on the medical mask supply in the United States; something that has been quite a subject of debate as of late.
