White House receives House Oversight subpoenas late Friday evening

With a positively wild week already behind us, many believed that perhaps the tumult of our nation’s capital would subside for the weekend.  They were wrong.

As Americans tuned into their their nightly punditry, they were likely greeted with the glaring, gaping wound of a story leading the big networks:  The White House has been subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee.

This, folks, looks to be the point of no return for the Democrats.  The stage is set.  This is the figurative hill they could metaphorically die on.

“We deeply regret that President Trump has put us — and the nation — in this position, but his actions have left us with no choice but to issue this subpoena,” the chairmen wrote.

The subpoena was issued by the House Oversight and Reform Committee as part of Democrats’ impeachment investigation of Trump and came as The West Wing was set to allow the similar request for documents from the president’s staff to go unfulfilled, likely forcing Democrats to make good on their threat to issue a subpoena for the records.

The White House is already threatening a stance of noncooperation until such a time as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi calls on her chamber to vote on impeachment.

Democrats have made it clear that they intend to treat any possible stonewalling as obstruction.
