What does “satanic” mean, and why do we not seem to know?

What does it mean to be “satanic”?

Does a thing have to be over-the-top creepy/bad, like Fifty Shades of Grey or a Ouija board, in order to qualify?

Does a person have to do extra-spicy, super-duper evil stuff like subscribe to Playboy or vote Hillary in order to breach the satanic threshold?

What makes a person or activity satanic?

While there are many ways of approaching that question, let’s just focus on the simple, basic bottom line from a biblical perspective. In doing that, we find that the entry-level qualifier for being rightly labeled “satanic” is to simply demonstrate a disregard God as God in practice – any practice.

Put another way, to be satanic is to deny God as the Owner, Definer, Sustainer, and Lord-in-active-practice over everything and everyone in His creation.

To deny the lordship of Christ in any area of life is to be satanic.

To deny His active, all-encompassing lordship over every detail right here and now in the realm of law is to take a satanic approach to law.

To deny His active, all-encompassing lordship over every detail right here and now in the realm of education is to take a satanic approach to education.

To deny His active, all-encompassing lordship over every detail right here and now in the realm of economics, art, business, and politics is to take a satanic approach to economics, art, business, and politics…which helps us to understand why things are going so poorly right about now here in America where things like law, education, economics, art and politics are concerned.

They’re going so poorly – these realms are rotting and imploding in dramatic fashion before our eyes – because we’ve embraced a satanic approach to these realms of life and conduct. “We the people” have become thoroughly satanic in our way of thinking and living.

After generations of progressive abandonment of the explicit lordship of Christ in the way we educate (understand, pursue, and apply knowledge), we’ve become thoroughly secularized. Which is another way of saying thoroughly paganized. Which is another way of saying thoroughly satanic.

Consider the following:

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. ~ Genesis 3:1-6

Here in the lovingly provided clarity of God’s perfect Word, we see the first presentation of a satanic theory of education (the pursuit of knowledge), which is the notion that knowledge of God’s creation (math, art, economics, law, etc.) can (and should) be pursued apart from that God’s Word. This is satanic theory 101, and it has become the foundation for our approach to pretty much everything in American culture.

We’ve embraced the serpent’s premise as the manner in which we pursue, understand, and apply law.

We’ve embraced the serpent’s premise as the manner in which we pursue, understand, and apply economics.

We’ve embraced the serpent’s premise as the manner in which we educate our children…usually in no small part because that’s how we were educated ourselves.

In this we’ve become thoroughly satanic in practice, and through our satanic practices we’ve led the culture to the hell that it is in now (and to the brink of the much worse that will soon come, until and unless we finally repent and turn from our satanic legal/economic/educational practices).

Contrary to popular political opinions, there is no fix for this situation – no cure for our cultural descent into oblivion – apart from repentance and submission to Christ…in detail and in practice.

Put another way, there is no satanic solution to our having embraced satanic approaches to law, liberty, business, and education.

There is only Jesus.

As Lord.

In detail.

For real.

Everything else – every alternative to Christ as Lord in law, education, economics, and politics –  is just another flavor of “satanic”.
