On Saturday, I wrote about two petitions to the White House petition site asking to allow Louisiana and Texas to peacefully withdraw from the United States due to the out of control federal government we have been under for several years. While I think it is probably not such a good idea to petition the people who have been burdening us with debt, defying the Constitution and promoting ignoring and even breaking the law, I do see it as a sign of a lack of union among the people of America. Since then, individual from twenty states now have petitions at Petitions.WhiteHouse.Gov.
The petition for Louisiana quoted sections from the Declaration of Independence:
“…Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government…”
Other petitions for states such as Montana and Florida have focused on a line attributed to Benjamin Franklin: “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
Some have completely abandoned quoting the founding fathers or historical documents, such as the petition submitted for Oregon which simply read ”[A]nd we as citizens would respectively and peacably [sic] seperate [sic] ourselves from a tyranical [sic] Government who cares nothing about creating a sustainable future for our children.”
In the previous petitions, Texas has overtaken Louisiana in signatures and is just shy of the 25,000 needed to be seen by Barack Obama. Louisiana currently needs 11,550. They have 13,450. Texas currently has 18,103 and only need 6,897 signatures.

At the end of the day, the petitions are merely an echo of how we use to think in this nation and that is our States are sovereign and that men use to view their State as their country. We no longer do that and as a result we get sucked into everything both good and bad from the federal government.
Sadly, the ever expanding government and overstepping of its constitutional bounds is what is driving this outcry from American citizens who are tired of bearing the burden for those that suck from the tit of government, from over regulation, for over taxation, from an abundance of debt being piled on by lawmakers and a president who are looking to be politically expedient rather than Constitutionally and fiscally sound. I suggest Washington D.C. wake up and listen to the people before they are faced with a rude awakening in our land.
