From the very moment that Donald J. Trump stepped onto the American political stage he has had a target on his back.
You see, Trump is a Washington outsider, and the swamp creatures that have long inhabited The Beltway didn’t look kindly upon the idea that they could be run out of town by a man who once starred on reality television.
And so the Washington establishment revolted, and tried to pin a wild Russian conspiracy theory on Trump. They failed to “get” No. 45, but several of Trump’s acquaintances found themselves in trouble of some sort. The President used a portion of a recent coronavirus task force briefing to remind the nation of just how devious this whole scheme was.

Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, and General Michael Flynn were all charged with crimes not related to some grand “Russian collusion”, but on charges stemming from their interactions with investigators who were already clearly out to see Trump harangued by the political weight of the Washington elite.
One can only assume that Donald Trump has considered pardons in at least some of the cases stemming from the RussiaGate conspiracy theory.
