Trump: $1 Salary & “No Big Vacations”

President-elect Donald Trump appeared on 60 Minutes for an interview with Lesley Stahl in which he was asked about several things. Among those was his salary and whether or not he would be taking vacations.

In answering whether or not he would be accepting the $400,000 salary that is offered to presidents, Trump said, “Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. I don’t even know what it is.”

Some people might question his knowledge on the issue, but it isn’t a huge deal that he doesn’t know what politicians earn. Others would say that means he’s not a politician, plus, he doesn’t need that money in the first place.

“Four hundred thousand you’re giving up,” she told him.

“No, I’m not going to take the salary,” said affirmatively. “I’m not taking it.”

Now look, there’s nothing wrong with him taking the salary. The Bible teaches that a worker is worthy of his hire and other passage speak about working for wages. It’s perfectly ethical and it is going to obviously put him in a good light with the public.

In fact, according to Forbes, Trump has to accept the salary. The publication cited that the “President’s official salary is set by statute.”

The President shall receive in full for his services during the term for which he shall have been elected compensation in the aggregate amount of $400,000 a year, to be paid monthly, and in addition an expense allowance of $50,000 to assist in defraying expenses relating to or resulting from the discharge of his official duties. Any unused amount of such expense allowance shall revert to the Treasury pursuant to section 1552 of title 31, United States Code. No amount of such expense allowance shall be included in the gross income of the President. He shall be entitled also to the use of the furniture and other effects belonging to the United States and kept in the Executive Residence at the White House.

So, it looks as if Mr. Trump will have to take the salary due to a statute, but he is more than free to give the money away, which he has been known to do.

Additionally, he is taking a very different road that Barack Hussein Obama “I take million dollar vacations on your dime” Soetoro Sobarkah and his wife, Michelle. When asked about taking vacations, Trump replied, “There’s just so much to be done. I think we’ll be very big on vacations, no.”

It would be nice to see constitutional work being done and then DC vacated to send representatives home for like 10 months out of the year. That, my friends would stop a lot of the corruption in DC!
