In my nearly two decades of fire alarm work I traveled frequently and stayed quite a bit in hotels. I always wondered what happened in my room after I left, though, for the most part, I knew the people at many of the hotels and my stay was always uneventful. In most cases, I merely left the "Do not disturb" sign hanging on the door, which kept people from entering. However, one man recently found out that the hotel he stayed at had a very nosey maid.
The title of the video on YouTube was "Privacy in a brand-named hotel." Interestingly enough, neither the name of the maid or the hotel was mentioned in the video or the description. In fact, time was taken to cover the maid's eyes at several points during the video.
Vince Stavix, at least that is how he identifies himself on YouTube, left the camera of his computer running and it caught the maid going through a variety of his belongings. The images captured occurred on November 5, 2014 and he posted them to YouTube on November 8. As of this writing, there are over half a million views.
The maid enters the room and begins looking over a package that he received. She then makes her way over to the television and begins looking at his PlayStation games and his PlayStation 3. She inevitably begins to try to access his computer, his tablet and his chromebook.
Finally, she starts to make up the bed, clean the bathroom and eventually rummages through his luggage. During all of this she continues to wear the same latex gloves she was wearing when she entered the room.
Beyond the offensive nature of the maid going through this guy's belongings is the serious health hazard of wearing those same gloves to do all of this and it causes one to wonder if there are not the same gloves she is wearing in every room.
While many in the comments section tried to identify the hotel, I'm uncomfortable attempting to do so. Perhaps you have stayed at a hotel and can identify it.
My gut instinct is that this is not this woman's first rodeo. In fact, I would venture to guess that had there been something of significant value that would have been small enough for her to carry off, we just may have witnessed a theft. I admit that is presumptuous, but given what we've seen, it didn't seem like it was her first time going through hotel guests' belongings.
It was a good idea for this guy to have left his camera on to capture what took place.
The question now is, what will become of this maid? Has the hotel already fired her? If so, given the number of views this has, I'm thinking that there won't be a business in the area that would hire her.
