So you say you don't think the "state" should be meddling in your family life. You don't like Common Core. You resent your children's doctors prying questions into your family life. Questions like, "Are you eating your vegetables little Johnny? Oh… and by the way… does your daddy own a gun?" No crap! They do ask that!
You don't want your child's school mandating what your kid can eat, or draw, or say.
Yeah, me either – but it could be worse. You could live in Scotland.
In 2016, the Orwellian government of Scotland will issue a "Shadow Parent" to every child from birth to 18 years of age.
No, I'm not making this up. The law is called "The Children and Young People Act."
See, it's not just American progressives the pass these wacky laws. Progressives are everywhere and they all think the same thing – that we serfs are too incompetent to raise our own children "properly."
Josie Appleton of the UK's Manifesto club, researched the Scottish law and concluded that, "In substance, the role of the named person [the Shadow Parent] is not actually to supplant the family, to state-raised children, but rather to insert a surveying, coercive authority – a spy – in the midst of every family."
Oh, is that all?
The following is a passage from Orwell's 1984: "Already we are breaking down the habits of thought which have survived from before the revolution. We have cut the links between children and parent, and between man and man, and between man and woman. No one dares trust a wife or a child or a friend any longer. But in the future there will be no wives and no friends. Children will be taken from their mothers at birth, as one takes eggs from a hen – there will be no loyalty, except loyalty towards the Party. There will be no love, except the love of Big Brother."
It sounds as if Scotland is well on its way to Orwell's realization.
The "Shadow Parent" will have full access to all private records, including school, medical and most likely financial.
And we are worried about little NSA wiretapping.
They (the shadow parent) are tasked with "safeguarding" the well-being of the child and to propose "interventions" if they deem the child to have a "well-being need." I'm unable to find if part of the "intervention" is removal of the child from the family home, but I'm sure it's in there, or will be shortly after the 2016 implementation.
No, this isn't the spookiest thing I've heard since the Hitler youth.
But the Scottish law is merely the natural "progression" of the United Nation's 1989 "Convention of the Rights of the Child." All countries who signed on (the United States did not sign or agree) pledge to foster the child's development and protect children's "rights." The signatories agreed to change their own nation's laws to conform to the U.N. edict.
And who decides the "rights" of the children? Why, the despots at the United Nations, of course.
But even the U.N. didn't go as far as the Scottish government.
It just goes to show that progressives are progressives no matter which government they are attached to. The door has only to be cracked open. Once that occurs, once progressives see that opening – it's off to the races.
