Well, here we are. A year and a half away from the presidential election, and we are sick of it already. So I will just go ahead and tell you the outcome and spare you all the upcoming misery.
First of all, it is unbelievable that, with a population of over 330 million, we can't find one or two "natural born" citizens to adequately represent us. But if recent history is an indication of things to come, apparently we can't.
Republicans: Pretty simple. They are fielding a whole gaggle of has-beens, never-wases, and wannabes. I read somewhere that every member of Congress feels he/she is qualified to be president, an assumption clearly confirmed by the current occupant of the Oval Office.
So let's cut to the chase. Jeb Bush will be the Republican nominee. Why? The establishment RINOS like him, since he is one of them. The mainstream media and their Democrat friends like him because a moderate Republican is simply not electable. (Can you say "Mitt Romney," or "John McCain," or "Bob Dole"?) So that's it. Jeb Bush will be the Republican candidate, and he will lose. But the Democrats don't know that yet.
Democrats: They had no choice but to put all their eggs in Hillary's basket, since she had already intimidated any possible competition. But at 18 months out, there is a perceived problem. Hillary, as the lone Democrat presidential candidate, has not one redeeming feature. Not one! And as allegations of corruption and malfeasance in office continue to mount, it is quite possible that the Democrat establishment may feel they will have to make another choice.
Former Maryland governor O'Malley? Nah. Looks good without his shirt on, but no record, no name recognition, and too late to build one.
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders? He is the only openly admitting member of the American Socialist Party currently serving in Congress, but he is running as a Democrat—naturally. Yes, he is making a surprising splash on the primary scene, but I do hope, and sometimes pray, that the American public is not quite ready to elect a professing Socialist to the office of the presidency. Apparently, we would rather have our Socialism slipped to us in smaller dosages . . . such as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Besides, Bernie may not be any older than Hillary, but he has not had the benefit of her Botox injections, face lifts, hair dyes, etc., so he looks like her grandfather.
But there is a White Knight waiting in the wings, and his name is Bill. Bill Clinton.
We all know that if the election were to be held today, Bill would win by a landslide. And if, in the meantime, he isn't jailed for extortion or money laundering, the same will be true come November, 2016. He is a scoundrel, of course, but he is our scoundrel, and we like him.
What about Amendment 22, which limits a president to two terms? No problem. Obviously, the writers of this amendment meant two "consecutive" terms. The Supremes can easily correct any misinterpretation this wording may have caused, or just ignore it, as they have done with the "natural born citizen" requirement.
So there you have it. Go ahead, enjoy your summer. The only question remaining is whether the Clintons will bring back the silverware and other items they took with them when they left the White House, or if by now they have developed more exquisite tastes and will require all new furnishings.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook, Google Plus, & Twitter.
