Two Mexican nationals have been busted trading money for sex from two underage females in Tennessee.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s (TBI) human trafficking unit arrested Robelio E. Flores-Rivera, 26, and Adan O. Vasquez-Rodriguez, 34, on charges that they were engaging two females that were 14 and 17 years of age.
Breitbart Texas reports:
Investigators also charged Vasquez-Rodriguez with statutory rape, solicitation of a minor, and patronizing prostitution of a minor.
TBI officials responded to an inquiry from Breitbart Texas and spokesperson Leslie Earhart wrote in an email, “At this time, we do not have any information to suggest they are connected to an international trafficking organization, however, our investigation remains active and ongoing.”
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Human Trafficking Unit received information from the Knoxville Police Department on Sunday about a possible human trafficking case with two young females. The unit determined the location of the alleged crime – a motel in Elizabethton on Highway 19E.
There may be more charges forthcoming depending on the outcome of the investigation.
According to the state’s website, Tennessee “leads the nation in its approach to addressing human trafficking.” It also is determined to “hold traffickers accountable.”
Take a look at some of these startling statistics from the website.
- In the US, every two minutes a child is bought and sold for sex.
- 25% of runaways will be propositioned by a sex trafficker within 48 hours of leaving home.
- Human trafficking is the second-fastest growing criminal enterprise in our country.
- Human trafficking is worth more than an estimated $32 billion every year.
As for the state of Tennessee:
- 85% of counties reported instances of human sex trafficking.
- 72% of counties reported cases of children being sold for sex.
The reason for human trafficking is demand.
“Let me speak directly to men,” said TBI Director Mark Gwyn. “The women you see advertised online are people, not products. We need men to step up and demand better from themselves and the men around them.”
I could not agree more. Human trafficking is modern-day slavery.
