We’ve all heard or seen the man-on-the-street interviews Sean Hannity does from time to time. He sends one of his people out on the streets of New York City and asks questions of passersby – usually having to do with politics or government. He doesn’t do it for the fun or to feel superior, but to demonstrate how woefully ignorant our population is.
There have been many man-on-the-street type stunts done over the years. One might think, okay, your average Joe may not know the makeup of our government. They should, but that’s beside the point.
They may not know who the Speaker of the House is, who Russia is invading, or which terror group is currently battling Israel and who the good guys are. Maybe they just aren’t educated? Maybe they didn’t go to a fancy college to learn how to be critical freethinkers.
But certainly students at major universities understand world events and have been taught to recognize the good guys from the bad guys. Yet, when Caleb Bonham, editor of Campus Reform, interviewed some aspiring Ivy League geniuses, he found two common themes – they were idiots, and America sucks.
One of the interviewed students said, “As a Western civilization, we’re to blame for a lot of the problems that we are facing now. I don’t think anyone would argue that we didn’t create the problem of Isis ourselves.” Umm…what? That may have made sense if not for the double negative.
“American imperialism and our protection of oil interests in the Middle East are destabilizing the region and allowing groups like ISIS to gain power,” said another student.
Observation: I wonder if they know that we wouldn’t have any “oil interests” in the Middle East if the lefty loon environmentalists let us drill domestically.
Anyway, where did these aspiring radicals learn this nonsense? Why, of course, from professors like Musa al-Gharbi of the University of Arizona’s Department of Government and Public Service.
MailOnline reports that al-Gharbi wrote an article stating, “It would not be a stretch to say that the United States is actually a greater threat to peace and stability in the region than ISIS.”
He portrays American soldiers as committing atrocities on par with ISIS, or worse. He also claims that, “the US military has been heavily infiltrated by white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and other hate groups.”
Yes, this man is teaching our children, and at a major university.
While the university doesn’t condone his article, they stated that, “We also acknowledge his First Amendment right that allows him to publish his thoughts as a private citizen.”
Well, that makes me feel better. I wonder if their statement would be the same if his rants were about how evil blacks were, or Muslims, etc.? I rather doubt it.
So what can be done about these fools – about academia? After all, it is populated almost entirely of leftists who feel this way about America.
We may not be able to entirely rid our schools of these radicals dressed up as teachers and professors, but I believe we can do something.
What we need to do is educate our children, and do it early. If our kids know history – and in particular, our history – it will be much harder for these teachers to pull this kind of crap.
Here is an example of the kind of success one can have. My son is currently taking a computer science class. He told me at the beginning of the school year that his teacher is a hippie (his words). He came to me a couple weeks ago, complaining about the hippie teacher.
My son told me that this teacher had gone off topic recently and started preaching his liberal agenda, like global warming, forced recycling, the dangers of fossil fuels, and of course the evil military complex.
I asked him what he wanted me to do. To my pleasant surprise, he told me that he and two other students had already spoken to the principal’s secretary to obtain an appointment to meet with his principal regarding the teacher’s behavior.
I asked him, “Is it that you don’t wish to be taught by a liberal?” He said he didn’t care about his politics, but my son signed up for computer science course and expected to be taught computer science, not liberal politics.
Of course, I told him that was the exact right answer. You shouldn’t care about his politics if it has no bearing on your topic.
A week went by, and I heard nothing of an outcome, so I asked him what happened so far. He said that all the sudden the hippie began teaching computer science again and hasn’t uttered a liberal word in over a week.
They never met with the principal – didn’t need to. Evidently the assistant principal got wind of the situation, called the teacher, and voilà – no more problem.
I told him he might need to revisit this, but just approach it in a similar manner. He understood and had no problem with that.
In my opinion this is the best way to deal with radical teachers and professors. Just like an educated electorate, and educated student body will go a long way in preventing the spread of their radical ideology.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook and Twitter, and follow our friends at RepublicanLegion.com.
