One preacher I admire is fond of saying, “If you send your kids to Caesar for their education, don’t be shocked when they come back as good, little Romans.” And now we have our latest ready-made commercial for why God fearing people should be fleeing the State-run schools.
Minneha Core Knowledge Elementary School in Witchita, Kansas greeted their incoming students on the first day of the school year with a gigantic poster in the hallway presenting the so-called Five Pillars of Islam.
It goes without saying, this is a school in which it would be illegal to display the Ten Commandments. It would send the Leftists into apoplexy if the display had been, instead, a graphic showing the books of the Bible and their divisions into Old and New Testaments, law, prophets, history, wisdom, gospels, epistles, etc.
But that sort of argument, about the lack of fairness and “equal time” for Christianity (or any other religion, for that matter) really misses the mark. It doesn’t hit the heart of the issue.
The heart of the issue is this: there is no neutrality.
The quest for an educational system that is neutral with regard to religion is beyond quixotic.
If you imagine a pyramid-shaped organizational chart that shows the flow of authority, from the apex down to the peons at the bottom, those in favor of a purely secular school think they can achieve their goal simply by erasing the name of God from the top spot on the chart. But this is like thinking you’ve diminished the atmosphere by holding in a deep breath. Nature abhors a vacuum, as my physics teachers used to assure me. Wherever it finds one, it immediately gets up a stampede of stuff to fill it with. It is the same here. By removing God from the top spot, all you do is invite something else to fill that vacancy…and something always does. That something, whether you call it by a religious title or not, is your god, your ultimate sovereign.
The public schools have spent several generations becoming the closest thing we have to a tax supported, establishment church. Its administrators and teachers are the priests of the larger, supposedly secular State. They are in the process now, though they haven’t realized it, of learning that you can’t beat the “something” of Islam with the “nothing” of secular humanism.
The Christian parent’s six-year-old “missionary to the school” is not about to change that. But he may well be changed by it. Send your child to be educated by de facto Imams, don’t be shocked when he comes home a dhimmi.
