Democrats within the House of Representatives made some choices within their framing of this impeachment “inquiry” that could come back to haunt them during the Senate portion of the process.
For instance, House Intel Committee Chairman Adam Schiff was practically raked over the coals by his Republican colleagues over his choice to keep much of the early process a secret from the American people, as well has his unwillingness to allow the GOP to call witnesses that could justify the allegedly uncouth actions of the President.
Now, with the Republican-controlled Senate set to take up the matter in the coming days, the Democrats of the higher chamber have found the gall to make some heavy requests of their own.
Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer said Democrats want to hear from four administration officials during the Senate’s forthcoming impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.
He said the Democrats would be open to hearing from additional witnesses with knowledge concerning the delay of security funds to Ukraine in exchange for the country investigating Trump’s political rival former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.
“Senate Democrats believe strongly, and I trust Senate Republicans agree, that this trial must be one that is fair, that considers all of the relevant facts and that exercises the Senate’s ‘sole Power of Impeachment’ under the Constitution with integrity and dignity,” said Schumer, D-N.Y. “This trial must be one that not only hears all of the evidence and adjudicates the case fairly; it must also pass the fairness test with the American people.”
It has yet to be seen if the Republican Party will acquiesce to these requests, or if Schiff’s previous malefactions are still too fresh in their memory to allow it.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook and Twitter, and follow our friends at RepublicanLegion.com.
