Remember when it was the parent’s job to mold their children? Remember when parents were supposed to teach their children how to be responsible, law abiding, and respectful citizens? Remember when we as a people believed that it was the responsibility of the parents to instill moral values into their children? Remember when it was the parent’s job to make decisions about the health and wellbeing of their children?
Those days may soon be a distant memory to all but the oldest curmudgeons among us if conservatives don’t begin fighting back against the liberal culture of government-based parenting.
At 13 different Seattle, Washington, public schools children are not allowed to purchase sugary drinks like Coca-Cola (even with their parents’ consent), but they can be implanted with an intrauterine device (IUD) without anyone notifying their parents!
School-based health clinics in at least 13 Seattle-area public high schools and middle schools offer long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs), including IUDs and hormonal implants, to students in sixth-grade and above at no cost, according to Washington State officials.
LARCs are associated with serious side effects, such as uterine perforation and infection. IUDs, specifically, can also act as abortifacients by preventing the implantation of a fertilized egg…
“Because we’re at the school, which is so wonderful, we have access to the students, and they have access to us, pretty much any time,” said Katie Acker, a health educator at two high school clinics run by Neighborcare Health, which participates in the Take Charge program.
“We will send them a pass for whatever class is easiest or best to get out of. Of course, there are always students who are like, ‘I wanna miss IB Math!’ We are not gonna pull you out of IB Math — how about ceramics instead?”
This is simply another example of the upside-down world we live in today. At schools all over America, children are banned from drinking soda, taking aspirin, running in the halls, and passing notes… but get an IUD implanted in their bodies without parental consent? No problem. These schools call parents for misbehavior, failing grades, attendance issues… but not for medical procedures? These schools must get parents’ permission to take kids to museums, allow them to use the internet, or even take the child’s yearbook photo, but not to undertake a risky medical procedure with extreme moral ramifications?
