Riot Officer Takes Headshot as He Checks His Weapon against His Face

A riot officer recently shot himself in the face before a group of people, during what appears to be training exercises. I am not exactly sure where the footage took place, but one thing is for sure, this should be a safety lesson for anyone who uses a firearm of any kind.

Some have said that the officer is tapping what appears to be a 40mm grenade launcher on the ground, when the round suddenly goes off point blank into his helmet. You can see the blast and then the camera pans away.

headshotWhat is unclear is why the officer was doing this. It was clearly unsafe, whether he was checking to see if it was loaded, trying to clear a jam or whatever. When you see him leaning over the weapon and bumping it into the ground, you know it will not end well.

This officer needs to be behind a desk or go through a serious gun safety school before being allowed to handle any firearm again. Anytime you are staring down the barrel of your own weapon and beating it on the ground, you are just asking for trouble.
