We knew it was coming, and today it has happened. The American Health Care Act has been passed by a Republican-led Congress, and it's being touted as a "repeal of Obamacare," but nothing could be further from the truth.
The bill passed by a vote of 217 to 213, which was one more "yes" vote that was needed for passage.
All 193 Democrats voting opposed the bill. They were joined by 20 Republicans voting "no."
"A lot of us have waited seven years to case this vote," House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), said before the voting began. "Many of us are here because we pledged to cast this vote: to repeal and replace Obamacare."
"This bill delivers the promises we have made to the American people," Ryan said.
No, it really doesn't deliver what was promised, and that will be coming out more and more in the days ahead.
Here's just one of the shell games these politicians played. While they decided to undo the ban Obamacare imposed on insurer's charging more for people with pre-existing conditions, which was a good thing, they ended up adding a socialistic amendment to increase funding to help those same people pay for the higher premiums! And this is smaller government, GOP?
That alone should have been enough to reject that bill because it is unconstitutional spending. We have just one Constitution people! It applies to Democrats and Republicans, or it should.
Another issue is that many Republican members of Congress seemed to express the fact that they had not even read the bill.
Democrats attacked the bill and the Republicans, although we expected that.
“Make no mistake, many people will die as a result of this bill,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) said.
Schultz's claims are ridiculous, but she's a few nuts short of a Snickers bar anyways.
"Republicans are again maliciously trying to destroy health care," Pelosi said. "They have this vote tattooed on them. This is a scar that they will carry."
Though it's being touted as a repeal of Obamacare though, that is not what this is. It does make some adjustments, but the reality is that Obamacare is still very much in place, despite the claims of President Trump and others.
Still, Republicans justified their unconstitutional bill.
“Our constituents did not elect us to do what is easy," said Chairwoman of the House Budget Committee Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) "They elected us to do what is right."
Sadly, they didn't do what was "right." They did what was politically expedient. If they did what was right, they would have followed the Consitution's enumerated powers, but they didn't.
"What we have is something very, very incredibly well-crafted," Trump said of the bill. "This has really brought the Republican Party together. As much as we've come up with a really incredible health care plan, this has brought the Republican Party together. We're going to get this finished."
I wonder if President Trump could articulate for us exactly what is in the bill. I'm guessing he can't do that, but he believes it will "get even better" if it passes the Senate.
President Trump claims that Obamacare is dead, but let's see how that works out for those of you who have filed your taxes this year. Let's see how that works out for those of you still getting coverage under Obamacare. Let's see if that is true concerning those of you who had to purchase different insurance because of Obamacare. Of course, we won't be able to see that unless the bill passes and is signed by the president.
Republicans have made all sorts of claims about the bill, but they don't even know what it will cost! Additionally, the Congressional Budget Office has said it would be better to have a full repeal of Obamacare, something that has been introduced in one-page legislation here and here than to be toying with it the way Congress has done with these first two bills.
I agree with what she said though. Republicans are going to own this if it passes the Senate and President Trump signs it.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook, Google Plus, & Twitter. You can also get Freedom Outpost delivered to your Amazon Kindle device here.
