The Family Research Council held its Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C. this past week. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) gave a solemn pledge on Friday that he would “always take a stand for life.”

During Paul's speech, he said,

“I chided my church as a senior in high school for not seeming to care about the not yet born, for looking the other way and for not taking a stand on life. One thing I promise you, and I promise my constituents in Kentucky is: I will always take a stand for life."

Sen. Paul continued by reminding those in attendance of the past four decades in our society. He said, “The coarsening of our culture towards violent death has more consequences than even war. Tragically this same culture has led to the death of 50 million unborn children in the last 40 years. I don’t think a civilization can long endure that does not have respect for all human life – born and not yet born."

“We have a great many problems in this country to solve, but I believe there will come a time when we are all judged on whether or not we took a stand in defense of all life – from the moment of conception until our last natural breath,” he continued.

“Though I believe in limited powers for the federal government, I believe as our founders did that primary among these powers and duties is the protection of life. The government cannot protect liberty if it does not first protect life."

I agree with Senator Paul's comments and wish there were more that would take this admirable stance and look to defend life from conception. There is no doubt that we have lost our way, when as a nation, we are more concerned with money than we are with the deaths of millions of innocents.
