South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has declared that she will appoint Representative Tim Scott (R) to replace the retiring Senator Jim DeMint who will become the new president of the Heritage Foundation. Rep. Scott is both a staunch advocate of the Second Amendment, opponent of Obamacare's sterilization-contraception-abortifacient mandate, a defender of traditional, biblical marriage and has a perfect pro-life record.
On 10 votes in the House, Scott voted pro-life each time.
Even the Susan B. Anthony list applauded the appointment of Scott to the U.S. Senate:
“Congressman Tim Scott’s rise to the U.S. Senate is great news to both the country and the pro-life movement,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “At a point where our nation is hungry for leadership, Congressman Scott has demonstrated compassion and clarity on the abortion issue, never backing down when asked the tough questions. He has made it clear that defending the most vulnerable is an indispensible first principle in his own political philosophy. We applaud Governor Haley for this choice and look forward to Tim Scott’s pro-life leadership in the U.S. Senate.”
Scott also posted his own words with regards to life being sacred on his congressional website. He wrote:
I cosponsored two pro-life bills which have now passed the House of Representatives, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act and the Protect Life Act. I also supported legislation, the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act, to repeal part of the national health care reform law that violates the freedom of religion granted to us by the First Amendment. Government is already overreaching into our homes and businesses; it can’t be allowed to do the same with our faith.
I also support traditional marriage, and spoke out against the President’s decision to no longer allow the Department of Justice to defend the Defense of Marriage Act in court. I absolutely believe in keeping the institution of marriage as one solely between a man and woman. We must not allow the government to distort the meaning of marriage and instead, focus on building stronger families across America.
I regard all life as sacred, and am proud of our values and traditions. For this reason I will remain steadfast in my commitment to protect the unborn and continue to take a stand in defending traditional and religious values.
Scott criticized the Obamacare mandates that will force Catholics and Catholic institutions to buy health-care plans that cover sterilizations, contraceptives and abortifacients and thus violate the teachings of the Catholic faith. In a blog written for The Hill:
...the Obama Administration faces public outrage as the national health care reform package has violated that freedom, it is easy to see why. This is not a Catholic issue or a Republican issue. It is an issue that strikes to the heart of our nation.
The administration admitted they did not consult with Catholic leaders when attempting to revise the mandate - which still does not allow for the proper exemption. It was pointed out by Richard Doerflinger of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops that not even Jesus or Mother Theresa would qualify for the exemption as it is written.
Our nation was founded by those who believed in faith and freedom. Too often, Americans who are proud of their faith and the values it instills find themselves under attack. Government should be protecting our right to religious freedom, not assaulting it. The administration seems to be looking to do the minimum amount possible, instead of just doing the right thing: repeal this mandate. Plain and simple.
Rep. Scott also said in a statement on his congressional website:
The Constitution grants all law-abiding Americans the right to bear arms, regardless of what some would lead you to believe. Our Second Amendment right is a fundamental freedom and a cornerstone of our democracy.
As Americans, we have the right to defend ourselves, our families and our property, and the federal government should never interfere with this right. I’ve cosponsored more than half a dozen bills protecting the rights of gun owners, including the Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act and the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act.
I remain steadfast in my commitment to uphold our Second Amendment rights.
Mr. Scott, I am thankful to have you serve as Senator of my home state Sir. May God grant you courage as you enter the pack of wolves up there in Washington, D.C. and may you continue to show integrity in both your rhetoric and voting patterns on behalf of the people of South Carolina! I am looking for good thing to come as you serve in the Senate.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook, Google Plus, & Twitter.
