President Trump has long been critical of the entire Robert Mueller investigation and its subsequent report, and with good reason.
The Special Counsel spent nearly two years working on a probe that netted exactly zero charges for the President, and wasn’t worthy of compelling Congress to act against the Commander in Chief either. This was at the cost of tens of millions of dollars, and over the course of 22 months that felt most like a hostage situation than a safeguard for democracy.
For many, Wednesday’s testimony by Mueller could have cleared up quite a bit about why this whole conspiracy theory went mainstream in the first place…if lawmakers were allowed to receive answers from Mueller on that subject. Instead, Mueller, under DOJ guidelines, stuck to information contained only in his report, and was unable to shed light on the shady origins of the investigation itself.

President Trump surely has some ideas about how and why this nonsense got off the ground in the first place, and this week he is ramping up those insinuations with powerful language.
“This should never happen to another president of the United States again,” Trump said on Thursday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “Hannity.” “This is an absolute catastrophe for our country. This was a fake witch hunt, and it should never be allowed to happen to another president again. This was treason. This was high crimes. This was everything as bad a definition as you want to come up with. This should never be allowed to happen to our country again.”
“Witch hunt” and “hoax” have long been part of the President’s vernacular as it pertains to Mueller’s probe, but “treason” has been uttered far more sparingly.
As Mueller stumbled, however, the President seems to have made up his mind regarding the loaded language.
