Here is a story that makes my American chest swell with pride for the 14 year old involved. The Washington Post reports that an Arizona teen used a family handgun to repel an armed attack from a gun-wielding man, thus protecting his three younger siblings.
I think it's obvious that the boy had been trained in the gun's use. And thankfully so, or we'd probably be reading instead about a tragic home invasion that ended with young children either injured, missing, or killed.
But even as I wish I was able to find this young man and personally shake his hand, I find myself nauseated by some of the comments from liberals at the original piece.
One is worried that gun-rights advocates will use this story as proof that we've been right all along. But, the truth is, we have been. We were right before this happened, and everywhere that anyone has bothered to gather statistics, we have been vindicated. An armed home is a safe home. The liberal in question here thinks we'll trumpet this story abroad because he's projecting: that's what a gun control whacko would do if the story had gone in a worse direction. It's what they always do.
Another one suggests that the better response would've been to let the invader have what he wanted, rather than force a young man to make a split-second life-or-death decision.
That sort of thinking makes my mouth fall open in sheer wonder.
Bank on it: there are race-hustlers out there already hoping to see what they can do with this.
