PETA now looking to change road names that allude to meat-eating meals

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, (known colloquially as PETA), aren’t actually an organization that helps animals.  They are, in fact, merely a marketing company.

Sure, this sounds like a bold claim, but let’s look at the evidence.

The advocacy group certainly takes in scores of cats and dogs who are neglected, abused, or unwanted.  Unfortunately, a vast, vast majority of these would-be pets are then euthanized by these ethical animal “lovers”.

Meanwhile, as this mass euthanasia takes place, the organization itself is busy garnering celebrity endorsements and executing vile and offensive stunt “protests” that would make the bigots at Westboro Baptist Church uncomfortable.

PETA wants to be known for their advocacy, but there is very little evidence that they actually work to achieve what they propose.

Instead, like any “edgy” marketing company, they simply seek the most absurd way to get their name into the spotlight.  This week, it’s their incredibly pedantic position on road names that promote a protein-filled diet.

PETA sent out a news release Wednesday morning alerting Idaho media that it has written a letter to Caldwell Mayor Garret Nancolas to ask for a change to the street name Chicken Dinner Road. However, Caldwell city street maps don’t include Chicken Dinner Road, which is located in rural Canyon County.

“Just like dogs, cats, and human beings, chickens feel pain and fear and value their own lives,” said PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman in the letter.

So, just like the animals that they euthanize en masse, these chickens feel pain.  Got it.  Great logic there, PETA.

The inanity of the request was apparent not only in PETA’s purposefully pompous language, but in the Mayor’s stone cold non-response.

She wants the mayor to change the name of the road to “one that celebrates chickens as individuals, not as beings to kill, chop up, and label as ‘dinner.’ ”

Susan Miller, the Caldwell mayor’s assistant, told the Statesman that the mayor was in a meeting. She said she wasn’t sure whether he’d be issuing a response to PETA’s request.

PETA surely understands what they’re doing, and opposition outrage is all a part of their grand marketing plan.

Absurdity and offensiveness are very much a part of their branding, and seeking out issues such as the name of “Chicken Dinner Road” is just another way to drum up a controversy to galvanize their followers against an onslaught of common sense criticisms.
