Much of the hoopla surrounding the Democratic push to impeach Donald Trump has arisen due to the futility of the entire affair.
You see, the Senate has already indicated that there will be no removal of the President, and that this final judgment will come swiftly. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said so in no uncertain terms, paving the way for a fresh perspective on impeachment as a whole.
The Democrats have long understood this, and have chosen to pursue impeachment anyway, as it provides an opportunity to dominate the mainstream media news cycle in the lead-up to the 2020 election.
In order to keep the ruse alive, however, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told Telemundo that there was still a chance for some movement in the Senate.
Anchor José Díaz-Balart said, “The Senate is controlled by Republicans. So, regardless of what happens in the House, the Senate will probably not go forward with anything on impeachment.”
Pelosi responded, “We don’t know that.”
She added, “They haven’t seen all of the facts yet. But because they’re not willing to uphold their oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution, should not be in any way a deterrent to us to uphold our oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
Pelosi was unable to provide any evidence for her bold claim, further reinforcing the idea that the Democrats are exploiting the possibility of impeachment for their own personal and political gains.
