Over the weekend, a short, 10 second video emerged that showed a busload of fraternity kids from Oklahoma University. These kids were apparently part of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity. The video shows one tuxedo-clad young white man standing in the bus shouting a disgusting racist chant. Click here to watch it.
This kid and anyone else who joined in are frankly despicable brain-dead morons. That, in my opinion, is indisputable.
What should be disputed or at the very least be questioned is the incredible and swift reaction, or overreaction to the incident.
That being said, I have a few questions and comments of my own.
First: when was the video made? Was it last week, last year, when? What does that matter you may ask? It matters because what if it were made prior to some students belonging to the fraternity? Why should they also be punished if they weren't even there?
Second: I have combed through dozens of reports and nowhere does it say the students have been positively identified as Oklahoma University SAE members. We all assume so, but I don't know. Do you? Even if they are minors, the reports would say that they've been identified but their names cannot be released - but I saw nothing like that.
Third: virtually every report says the "video claims to show OU fraternity singing racist chant." Claims? Has it actually been confirmed? Because if it has, I haven't found that confirmation.
I'm not saying that the video isn't legitimate - it sure appears to be, but it was released by a black activist group who claims these are OU fraternity kids. By now, maybe it has been confirmed, but as of Sunday night there was no confirmation – at least none that I could find.
So here's my real beef with this whole situation. Sunday night, just hours after the video's release, in typical scared white guilt knee-jerk fashion, the national SAE organization closed the entire OU SAE chapter.
The SAE national president Brad Cohen said he hopes the University expels the students involved. Additionally all OU SAE chapter members have been suspended. All of them!
Here's a doozy. OU Pres. David Boren said in a statement Monday: "To those who have misused their free-speech I have a message for you…" I frankly don't care what the message was and neither should anyone else beyond what he said about free speech.
I wasn't aware of the "misuse of free speech" clause in the Constitution. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech (unless one misuses it)…"
The university president did say on Monday morning that all SAE members have until midnight Tuesday to basically get out of Dodge. "I direct that the house be closed and the members will remove their personal belongings from the house by midnight tomorrow… There must be a zero tolerance for racism everywhere in our nation."
Sunday night a campus police officer who was guarding the house had to leave on another call, the fraternity house was vandalized and someone spray painted "tear it down" on the side of the building. Who wants to bet no one will investigate that. Racism won't be tolerated but I'll wager vandalism will.
And what about the poor students in the fraternity who didn't take part in this? Will they be guilty by association and thrown under the proverbial bus? They've already been evicted and suspended, with zero due process, so I guess the answer is yes.
What these kids did was really stupid and very wrong but not criminal, any more than what the black protesters in Ferguson were yelling about white police officers.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook, Google Plus, & Twitter.
