The American people demanded justice for the brutal death of George Floyd, and they are now beginning to see a glimmer of hope that it is on the way.
Floyd’s death rocked the nation this week after a viral video depicted Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck, despite the victim having already been handcuffed and repeatedly warning Chauvin that he could not breath, until his death.
Now, after several nights of protests and rebellion, Chauvin is behind bars.
Freeman said the evidence against Chauvin includes video from a bystander’s cell phone, body camera footage as well as statements from witnesses and a preliminary report from the medical examiner.
“We felt in our professional judgment that it was time to charge and we have so done it,” Freeman said.
He later added he expected additional charges to be brought against the other officers involved in the incident, but did not go into detail.
Further demonstrations have been planned for cities around the country on Friday, in a show of solidarity with the people of Minnesota.
