Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative Is a Scam

One of President Obama’s pet initiatives is the My Brother’s Keeper Foundation. The initiative was set up to help the minority community’s “persistent educational gap between boys of color and white boys.”

“In May, the president said that business and nonprofit leaders who support My Brother’s Keeper are ‘not doing this out of charity’ or to assuage societal guilt. They’re doing this because they know that making sure all of our young people have the opportunity to succeed is an economic imperative.”

And in April, Obama announced that My Brother’s Keeper is “spinning off from the White House and becoming an independent foundation, in preparation for his departure from the Oval Office in 2017. My Brother’s Keeper Alliance will be modeled in part after the Clinton Global Initiative, started by former president Bill Clinton in 2005. The foundation will channel corporate and individual donations to existing programs for minority youth.”

Well, what better foundation for one crook to model after than another – the Clinton Global Initiative and the Clinton (crime family) Foundation. Oh, they’ll channel corporate individual donations all right. It’s called pay to play and the Clinton’s have perfected it. Why wouldn’t Obama model his foundation after theirs?

The White House has released a report highlighting the benefits of My Brother’s Keeper – that “Minority men would earn $170 billion more each year, the total US gross domestic product would spike by 1.8% and all American workers would see a 3.6% rise, the White House predicts.”

Yes, just like they predicted, Obamacare will save us each $2500, you can keep your insurance company and your doctor, and green energy will create jobs.

Apparently the “Presidents initiative has attracted hundreds of millions of dollars in pledges, although the daunting goal of closing education and achievement gaps would take significantly more investment to solve.” Yes, we need to simply throw more money at the problem. That always works.

The initiatives “are being coordinated by the Council of the Great City Schools, which represents large urban school districts,” because they’ve done such a great job with the gazillions of dollars we’ve already given them.

The Council director, Mr. Michael Casserly, says, “The 50-year anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act reminded us that those great battles of the past were not fought over access to mediocrity. They were fought over access to excellence.”

Yet, in a series of standard tests administered to a random sampling of American children, only 14% of black boys and 18% of Hispanic boys scored proficient or above on the fourth grade reading test in 2013.

So the leaders of the minority community have had 50 years to fix this great educational inequity and here we are, half a century later, and nothing has worked. Well, not nothing—one thing has, and demonstrably. It’s called school vouchers, but we all know what has happened to that.

In 2013, Obama’s Department of Justice sued Louisiana “in order to block implementation of vouchers for many public school students for the 2014-2015 academic year. The DOJ’s primary argument is that letting underprivileged students take advantage of vouchers to attend private schools can disrupt the racial balance in public schools. About 80% of the kids who receive the voucher or the scholarship are minority.”

And this is typical of the “caring” radical left. They’re more concerned with the racial balance in public schools than they are with actually educating their children.

For seven years running, Obama has proposed defunding the Washington D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program, “a school choice program that allows inner-city students in the nation’s capital to escape failing and often dangerous public schools,” yet he sends his precious daughters to Sidwell Friends posh private school.

The Opportunity Scholarship Program is a measly $20 million per year. During the Bush years, thousands of minority children took advantage of the program, at a cost of between $8000 and $10,000. “That’s still about one third lower than would cost to educate students in Washington D.C.’s public schools.”

The program serves about 5000 students. Almost all the students who get the money are blacks and Latinos. Graduation rates of these “vouchered” minority students average over 90%, compared to 56% (and dropping) in public schools.

So, Mr. President – as is typical of you and other radical progressives, you’re not really interested in helping struggling minorities, and that should come as a surprise to… nobody.
