In Tuesday’s presidential debate, Obama said he supported an assault weapons ban and even mentioned supporting restrictions on “cheap handguns.” This is no surprise as demonstrated here and here and even in his support of the “assault weapons” banning while he was in the Illinois legislature. He even reiterated this position when he ran for the presidency in 2008. Apparently all of that was just not enough for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
That’s Right, “Nanny B,” who has gone after big gulp sugary drinks, baby formula and more gun laws, was not satisfied with either Barack Obama or Mitt Romney, who previously had said he would sign an assault weapons ban, before changing his mind to get the National Rifle Association’s endorsement.
Of course, instead of calling plays from the bleachers, Bloomberg could run for president and let the American people be his judge. But Bloomberg knows that while people are impressed by the size of his bank account, few west of the Hudson River care what thinks on any issue.
And besides that, the American people have already spoken on the subject of guns. Gun ownership is at an all-time high, gun restrictions are the least restrictive they have been since before the imposition of the Gun Control Act of 1968, and a series of Gallup polls beginning in 1990 and 1959, respectively, show that support for gun control in general, and a handgun ban in particular, have fallen to periodic lows.
Even though we all vote, liberals like Bloomberg will never get the message. They march to the beat of their own drum and don’t care about anything except keeping people under control. This move to form a super PAC is just evidence of that.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook and Twitter, and follow our friends at RepublicanLegion.com.
