Obama Says He’ll Have To Start Governing At Some Point

What is still amazing to me is how Washington is trying to convince the American people that spending cuts are bad. What’s even more amazing is that the alleged “cuts” that they are talking about aren’t real cuts in the first place. With that in mind Barack Obama tempted Republicans again on Monday with compromise in order to avoid what he calls “big spending cuts” which are due to take effect at the end of this week. “At some point,” he said, he’ll have to do some governing and stop manufacturing crisis after crisis.

Obama told a meeting of the National Governors Association at the White House,”There are always going to be some areas where we have genuine disagreement … but there are more areas where we can do a lot more cooperating than we have seen in the past several years. To do that, though, this town has to get past its obsession with focusing on the next election instead of the next generation.”

“All of us are elected officials,” he said. “All of us are concerned about our politics, both in our own party’s as well as the other party’s. But at some point, we’ve got to do some governing. And certainly what we can’t do is keep careening from manufactured crisis to manufactured crisis. As I said in the State of the Union, the American people have worked hard and long to dig themselves out of one crisis; they don’t need us creating another one. And unfortunately, that’s what we’ve been seeing too much out there.”

At some point we’ve got to do some governing? Hello? You are supposed to be the national governor! At some point a national governor needs to govern. Let me ask, what has Barack Obama been doing the past four years? I’ll give you a hint. It hasn’t been governing. It’s been organizing and campaigning.

One would have to ask, just who manufactured this crisis Mr. Obama? Each of the “crises” we’ve seen over the past four years have been manufactured with you at the helm.

Obama then appealed to Republicans and spoke of wanting to agree with them on the issue of sequestration.

“These cuts do not have to happen,” he said. “Congress can turn them off anytime with just a little bit of compromise.”

“To do so, Democrats — like me — need to acknowledge that we’re going to have to make modest reforms in Medicare if we want the program there for future generations.” Of course, he wants to continue funding all current social welfare projects, including the new Affordable Care Act which goes into full effect next year.

He then went on to state that Republicans “need to adopt the same approach to tax reform that Speaker Boehner championed just two months ago.”

He means they need to cave to his demands so that you and I get screwed on increased taxes, which is what he wants. That last effort on the part of Speaker John Boehner cost everyone making more than $40,000 more money from their paycheck.

“I know that sometimes folks in Congress think that compromise is a bad word and they figure they’ll pay a higher price at the polls for working with the other side than standing pat or engaging in obstructionism,” Obama said.

Real cuts are not a bad thing. Unfortunately, even the sequester is not a “real cut.” However, it does reduce spending from what it would be. For that reason, Republicans should do nothing and let it take place.

I’ll state it openly, compromise is a bad word, at least when it comes to politics. While you may compromise on the price of a car or some service you purchase from the private sector, when the term compromise is applied to a certainly philosophy, like lower taxes, keeping your spending within your means and an oath to the Constitution, then it is simply betrayal of principles formerly given in political speeches to get elected or stay in power. I don’t see any compromise on the Obama administration’s part. Do you?
