Obama: Off Teleprompter – On Gun Control

If you recall, back on March 30,2011, Barack Obama met with Sarah Brady, wife of Jim Brady, who received a debilitating head wound during the assassination attempt of President Ronald Reagan by John Hinkley. It was the thirtieth anniversary of the assassination attempt and in regards to more gun control legislation, Obama said to Mrs. Brady “I just want you to know that we are working on it. We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.”

Just days ago the Washington Examiner reported,

The National Rifle Association, jumping on President Obama’s new and firm support for a Clinton-style assault weapons ban, is stepping up its attack on the president in Ohio, Virginia, Florida and Wisconsin with a new “we told you so” theme.

David Keene, president of the NRA, told Secrets, “the president has ratified what we have been saying” in ads and mailings to pro-gun voters. “See, he peeked out and finally said what he wants,” said Keene.

Keene said that Obama’s statement was a “strategic error on his part” because it blew up the president’s pro-Second Amendment rhetoric. “He knows it’s politically dangerous to take on the Second Amendment,” said Keene.

“We have credibility when we say that Barack Obama is a threat to your rights. But that credibility is obviously enhanced 10-fold when Barack Obama, in a moment of weakness, says, ‘Yeah, as a matter of fact I am.’ And that’s what he did,” said Keene. “This is going to help us.”

Barack Obama has been one to be very outspoken, at least in the past. A fellow professor with Obama at the University of Chicago in the 1990’s told radi host Laura Ingraham that he insisted,

“People shouldn’t be allowed to own guns.”

Even during the 2008 Democrat National Convention Obama proclaimed, “I believe in the Second Amendment.” That was in response to a question that asked what his administration planned to do to limit availability of assault weapons. However, that was not the entirety of Obama’s answer. He went on to say,

I also share your belief that weapons that were designed for soldiers in war theaters don’t belong on our streets. And so what I’m trying to do is to get a broader conversation about how do we reduce the violence generally. Part of it is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced. But part of it is also looking at other sources of the violence. Because frankly, in my home town of Chicago, there’s an awful lot of violence and they’re not using AK-47s. They’re using cheap hand guns.

Is Obama advocating the ban of hand guns with this statement? I think it’s rather apparent that he is.

According to the NRA, in a piece titled “Obama’s Secret Plan To Destroy The Second Amendment By 2016,” there is a three point strategy that Obama wants to follow:

1. Neutralize gun owners and NRA voters

2. Win re-election to a second term in the White House, where they then will be immune to the will of voters

3. Prosecute a full-scale, sustained, all-out campaign to excise the Second Amendment from our Bill of Rights through legislation, litigation, regulation, executive orders, judicial fiat, international treaties-in short, all the levers of power of all three branches of government.

The article goes on to point out how before Obama moved to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue that he supported every gun ban that came up as Senator. He opposed Right-to-Carry laws and he even voted to ban nearly all common hunting-rifle ammunition.

His sidekick, Vice President Joe Biden, also is a huge supporter of gun control declaring, “I’m the guy that originally wrote the assault weapons ban.”

The NRA warns that a second term could see “the worst anti-gun legislative avalanche since 1968.” The article states,

Gun bans. Microstamping. Bullet serialization. “One gun a month.” Global gun databases, secret watchlists and the holy grail they’ve worked to impose for the past 50 years: Gun owner licensing and gun registration regimes that could be used for gun prohibition, confiscation and ultimate destruction.

In other words, the end of firearm freedom as we know it.

Well friends, this is a man that has already insulted us by “declaring that we are those that “cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment.” Well that just isn’t true. Guns help keep tyrants at bay. Guns help in protecting us from those that would do us harm In the words of the fictitious character Gordon Gekko who said that “Greed is good” I declare “Guns are good.”

The federal government would be wise in dealing with what it has been granted power by the states to deal with and not impose its leaders personal philosophies about firearms upon the people, nor attempt to legislate against them.
