Iran’s Supreme Leader Sayyid Ali Khamenei, known for his anti-American rants and his unrestrained vilification of Israel as “the rabid dog” of the region, did not participate in recent US/Iran talks in Geneva. Instead, he sent his popularly elected moderate errand boy, President Hassan Rouhani to negotiate with President Obama’s errand boy, Secretary of State, John Kerry.
This is not surprising, since many international diplomacy experts have suggested Khameni’s presence at the Geneva talks would have done more harm then good. However, I believe it is important for Americans to understand (within the context of Obama/Valerie Jarrett foreign policy plans for Iran) several important facts about Iran’s alleged brand of moderate democracy.
Iran’s most politically powerful man is not their moderate President, Hassan Rouhani; it is the Supreme Leader of Iran, Sayyid Ali Khamenei
The Iranian constitution specifically reserves extraordinary power, power not granted to the Iranian President, to the Supreme Leader. The Supreme Leader of Iran (also called the “Guardian Jurist” or “Leader of the Revolution”) is the provisional Chief of Iran’s three branches of government (the Judiciary, the Legislative and the Executive branches).
It also bears noting, Iran’s Supreme Leader possesses the constitutional power (and some believe divine power) to impeach and remove Iran’s President, Hassan Rouhani at will. Moreover, Supreme Leader Khamenei, not temperate President Rouhani, is the Commander and Head of the Iranian Armed Forces.
Unlike Iran’s President, Iran’s Assembly of Experts elects the Supreme Leader, not the people. The Assembly of Experts is a congregation of Islamic theologians chaired by Mahdavi Kani, an Iranian cleric, and leader of the Combatant Clergy Association.
Founded in 1977 by a group of Shia clerics, the Combatant Clergy Association spawned a popular Iranian revolution leading to the overthrow of another former Iranian moderate and ally of America, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
Iran’s current Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei was a founding member of the Iranian Combatant Clergy Association, now recognized as a powerful political party, of sorts, in Iran.
The details of the interim US/Iran sanctions lift, negotiated with Iranian President Rouhani are not only scandalous, but also stupid. John Kerry has negotiated an assumed deal—loved by multinational business interests— supposedly designed to prohibit Iran’s development of nuclear weapons with a puppet Iranian President that may not last through next year.
Some news outlets are reporting Iran Supreme Leader Khamenei’s praise for President Rouhani’s Geneva efforts. This is not much of a shock, since Iran will not have to meet any serious deadlines, scale back enrichment operations, suffer anymore economic sanctions, and somehow, managed to secure billions of guaranteed US taxpayer economic stimulus.
Iran is a country ruled and dominated by a religious ideology that makes Sunni Al Qaeda terrorism almost preferable for America, and its ally Israel.
Iran’s Supreme leader is a follower of Imani Shia Islam, a particularly troubling branch of Shia Islam. Imani Shia are adherents of “The Occultation” or what is called “Twelver Shia Islam.” Twelver Shia Muslims believe in an infallible prophecy of the twelfth Imam, Muhammad al-Mahid—a seventh century spiritual successor to the prophet Muhammad—who they believe, will return at the end of time and establish a global Islamic state.
Over 85 percent of Muslims in Iran devotedly follow this religious ideology. Moreover, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Sayyid Ali Khamenei believes he is divinely selected to advance the Islamic end times (Islamic Armageddon), bring about the return of the 12th Imam, the Mahdi (or Guided One) and the world Islamic state.
This is not a secret. Everything that former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei set in motion in 1977, for the coming of the twelfth Imam, is now in the hands of his successor, the true ruler of Iran, Supreme Leader Khamenei. Moreover, that future may eventually include nuclear weapons.
Iran, an uncultivated land of opportunity for global business elitists, maintains an agenda set in its Islamic beliefs. To ignore the very reasons Iran has aggressively sought and secreted its nuclear weapons program is thoughtless.
If throwing money at state sponsors of Islamic terrorism furthered American goals of peace with the Arab nations, how does one reconcile the ongoing growth and spread of global Islamic violence? Moreover, given Iran’s deposition to Twelver ideology, is a peaceful Iran ever possible?Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook and Twitter, and follow our friends at RepublicanLegion.com.
