As if we aren't hearing enough about the entire fiscal cliff fiasco taking place in Washington and about to crash around our ears here on the home front, Barack Obama is looking to a new Cap and Trade deal that will become the building blocks of a fraudulent "climate change treaty."
Obama has moved forward with greenhouse-gas rules for vehicles and new power plants, appliance standards and investment in low-emitting energy sources. He’s also called for 80 percent of U.S. electricity to come from clean energy sources, including nuclear and natural gas, by 2035.
“The president is laying the foundations for real action on climate change,” Jake Schmidt, who follows international climate policy for the Washington-based Natural Resources Defense Council, said in an interview in Doha. “Whether or not he decides to jump feet first into the international arena, we’ll see.”
Envoys from more than 190 nations are entering their second week of talks today at the United Nations conference working toward a global warming treaty. Their ambition is to agree to a pact in 2015 that would take force in 2020. It would supersede limits on emissions for industrial nations under the Kyoto Protocol, which the U.S. never ratified.
So if you are wondering what the left hand is engaged in as the right hand waves about over the magic hat of the fiscal cliff, this is it. Keep in mind that as you remember that according to Obama's energy plan, which would be directly tied to this new Cap and Trade agreement would, energy "prices would necessarily skyrocket."
Obama's Environmental Protection Agency is required under the Clean Air Act go ahead with new regulations on emissions from existing power plants. The claim is that these are responsible for roughly one-third of U.S. emissions.
Jonathan Pershing, a State Department negotiator in Doha, claims that U.S. emissions are already down from 2005 by 8.8 percent. But the new goal is to reduce emissions
Newsmax also reported, "Envoys from more than 190 nations are entering their second week of talks today at the United Nations conference working toward a global warming treaty. Their ambition is to agree to a pact in 2015 that would take force in 2020. It would supersede limits on emissions for industrial nations under the Kyoto Protocol, which the U.S. never ratified."
There was a reason we didn't ratify it. It wasn't good policy! It was completely targeted against industrialized nations.
Additionally, if the word really gets out about what this new Cap and Trade is being put in place for, the administration will refrain from speaking about costs.
Back in September The Hill reported about Obama's use of executive order and his EPA's interpretation of existing law:
President Obama’s use of executive authority and his Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) interpretation of existing laws might have laid the groundwork for renewed cap-and-trade efforts, political experts said Wednesday.
The courts have approved many of the EPA’s pollution regulations, giving Obama license to propose new rules, former EPA Administrator Carol Browner said during a Politico-hosted panel discussion at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.
She explained those court victories have created momentum that might make industry-specific cap-and-trade plans more palatable than the prospect of facing new regulations. Though comprehensive cap-and-trade legislation might be off the table for now, Browner said that dynamic opens opportunities for piecemeal progress on cap-and-trade.
Robert Stavins, director of Harvard University's Environmental Economics Program, said that such policies by the Obama EPA "are just the beginning."
“The interesting thing is that for the past three UN climate conferences, the U.S. delegation has never talked about this,” Stavins said in an interview. “They haven’t been interested in taking credit internationally for what’s already in place. When I mention this to other parts of the world, people are shocked.”
Stavins said the last thing that Obama wanted to have before the elections was for State Department officials making it appear as though he was attempting "an end run around the Congress" on climate policy. “It would have been very bad for the president’s re- election,” he said.
Of course it would have been. Now we will be facing the full brunt of nonsensical socialist policies by this administration, including climate policies based on known scientific fraud.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook, Google Plus, & Twitter.
