New York police on Monday were investigating an explosion that was reported near the Port Authority Bus Terminal that may have been a botched terrorist attack.
Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton told MSNBC moments after the incident said the preliminary information he has is that the suspect was planning the attack “in the name of ISIS,” which would make it a terrorist attack.
He said the suspect is in his 20s, and is possibly from Bangladesh.
Spectrum News in New York said authorities apprehended one suspect who was wearing an “explosive vest” and detonated it….

Akayed Ullah has been identified as the suspected bomber of a Manhattan transit terminal on Monday morning, NYPD Commissioner John O’Neil told reporters. Ullah, 27, resides in Brooklyn, New York and came to the United States approximately 7 years ago, a U.S. official told The Daily Beast. Ullah had a pipe bomb strapped to his person, an official said, when it exploded in a in a passageway between two subway platforms. Police stripped Ullah to remove the device, the New York Times reported. Ullah was taken into custody and is being treated for burns and lacerations at a hospital, authorities said….
The jihadis have long had New York City in their sights.
