Nunes Needles CNN and Daily Beast Ahead of Legal Action: ‘Run For Cover’

There seems to be a prevailing notion that the mainstream media today doesn’t so much report the news, as it attempts to create the news.

Of course, from a business standpoint, this makes perfect sense; CNN and their cohorts would much rather control the narrative by being that narrative’s author.  This allows for them to keep the advertisers happy with the direction of the spin, and to predict peak ratings and revenues.

It is a stark reminder that this is the infotainment industry, not the news.

Ranking House Republican Devin Nunes learned this lesson late last week after CNN and The Daily Beast both published articles stating that he had been a part of a European mission to dig up “dirt” on Joe Biden back in December of 2018 – a story that Nunes himself has claimed is entirely false.

The GOP firebrand was so incensed, in fact, that he has threatened to sue both organizations in retaliation.  This week, Nunes is reiterating that sentiment with a bit of bombast.

From a recent appearance on Hannity:

“I will tell you, Sean, for all of the last three years, including the Russia hoax to the Ukraine hoax, this is the mother of all fake news stories,” Nunes continued. “There is not one bigger than this. And so, next week we are going to take them to court. They will have an opportunity to come to court so that we can subpoena each other. We get discovery and sit people down for depositions. I have a bet for you, Sean — CNN and The Daily Beast are going to run for cover. They’re going to fight this. They are not going to show up in court. They’re not going to accept service. At the end of the day, I’m going to track them down and I’m going to hold them accountable because this has gone on for too long, and this is the only way we’re going to be able to get retribution and be able to seek fairness and transparency in the media is by holding them accountable.”

Nunes is far from the only high profile republican who is less than thrilled with the treatment of conservatives in the media, with President Trump himself rarely missing an opportunity to excoriate the press corps over their blatant biases.
