Nancy Pelosi: We Don’t Have A Spending Problem

On Sunday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) appeared on Fox News Sunday and simply denied reality by using Socialistic mangling of word definitions. She told host Chris Wallace that Congress doesn’t have a spending problem, but rather they have a budget deficit problem.

“We have to make a judgment about what — how do we get growth with jobs,” Pelosi said. “That is where the real revenue comes from. You don’t get it by…cutting your education and cutting back on investments in science and National Institutes of Health, food safety, you name it. So, it isn’t as much a spending problem as it is a priorities — and that is what the budget is, setting priorities…”

“So, here’s the thing, though: we are here to have a budget that has revenue coming in, that has investments made, into the future,” she continued. “We also want to make decisions in those two areas where growth with jobs are created, because more jobs, more revenue coming in. Nothing brings more money to the Treasury of the United States, than investment in education of the American people.”

Pelosi added, “So, we need to recognize that, which cuts really help us and which cuts really hurt our future. And, cuts in education, scientific research and the rest are harmful, and they are what are affected by the sequestration.”

“So, it is almost a false wrong to say we have a spending problem,” she continued. “We have a deficit problem that we have to address. Right now, we have low interest on the national debt and it’s a good time for us to act to lower the deficit.”

She concludes,

“So it is almost a false argument to say we have a spending problem, we have a budget deficit problem.”

I will note that she used the world “almost” which means it really is a true argument that we have a spending problem. Besides deficits are what? Interestingly enough, the 1828 Webster’s dictionary declares that the term deficit is “want; deficiency; as a deficit in the taxes or revenue.” So you see, it’s not that Congress is spending too much, it’s that they aren’t taxing Americans enough! Unbelievable!

In other words you are spending more than you are taking in. That’s a spending problem.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) told the Wall Street Journal that Obama said “We don’t have a spending problem” during their fiscal cliff negotiations.

Even White House Press Secretary Jay Carney tried to question the integrity of reporter who simply asked about Boehner’s allegations. “I’m not sure what rhetorical game you’re trying to engage in,” Carney replied to a reporter who asked if Obama made that comment attributed by Boehner. “I mean, what is true is that we have a health care spending problem. That’s why the President addressed it in the Affordable Care Act. That’s why he’s addressed it in the proposals he’s put forward, and he has addressed it in discretionary spending cuts and he has put forward more spending cuts. There are spending cuts in his proposal before the Speaker of the House.”

He then claimed, “you can take that and make it mean something else but that would not be honest.”

Rep. Jason Chaffetz tweeted:

Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) said of Pelosi’s comments that “this is the attitude that has the U.S. 16 [trillion dollars] in debt.”

I think Senator Ayotte’s comments are my exact thoughts on the subject.
