The democratic wing of Congress seems befuddled, to say the least.
On one hand, their constituency is clamoring for impeachment proceedings to begin against Donald Trump. Voters, celebrities, and prominent members of the democratic party are forcefully demanding that Nancy Pelosi and her minions get this ball rolling.
On the other hand, Congressional leaders on the left side of the aisle are obstinate in their opposition to such a move. They believe that they don’t yet have the evidence necessary to make the charges stick, and are cautioning against a hasty move that could impact the 2020 election.

As a major next step, Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., announced that the committee would file a petition in court on Friday to obtain grand jury materials from the former special counsel’s investigation.
Nadler called the grand jury materials “critically important” for their investigation. In the petition, Democrats on the committee noted that because Justice Department policies do not allow the prosecution of a sitting president, the House of Representatives is “the only institution of the federal government” that can hold Trump accountable.
A day earlier, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a similar statement, indicating that she had not yet seen sufficient evidence to believe that such a political move would be successful.
In either case, the grasping at straws that is occurring within the halls of Congress has been resonating poorly with the American people, who are growing weary of the entire RussiaGate conspiracy theory.
