Mulvaney Defies Subpoena as Dems Refuse Contempt Enforcement

All you need to know about the strength of the Democratic case for impeachment lies within the left’s unwillingness to employ even their most basic of contempt enforcements.

It has become obvious that the Democrats themselves don’t believe that their impeachment of Donald Trump will be successful.  They have hemmed and hawed at ever-louder volumes over the course of the last few weeks, and they have certainly done their fair share of threatening those who would defy their “formal impeachment inquiry”, but, when it comes to bark versus bite, the left is simply whimpering.

Not a single defiant witness has been reprimanded, punished, or otherwise sullied by the Democrats, likely because this isn’t about impeaching Donald Trump – it’s about hijacking the news cycle in a race where the left’s fundraising has tanked and Trump is dominating the political advertising game.

And, so long as the Democrats continue to refuse to bring consequences to those who defy them, they will continually find themselves defied.

Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney on Friday defied a subpoena to appear before House committees for a deposition as part of the ongoing impeachment inquiry against President Trump.

Mulvaney was called to testify on Friday at 9 a.m., but did not show up.

Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., subpoenaed Mulvaney after the White House rejected the original request for him to appear. Schiff, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., and Oversight Committee Acting Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., had wanted to hear from the top White House official, claiming he had “substantial first-hand knowledge and information” relevant to the inquiry.

“Past Democrat and Republican administrations would not be inclined to permit senior advisers to the president to participate in such a ridiculous, partisan, illegitimate proceeding – and neither is this one,” White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley told reporters on Tuesday.

The Democrats’ unwillingness to enforce even their own subpoenas tells us a great deal about the strength of their case against the President, or, rather, the lack thereof.
