The Commonwealth of Virginia is poised to have one heck of a case of the Mondays coming up, but it could have been so much worse.
Monday is “lobbying day” at the state Capitol in Richmond, and a massive group of organized Second Amendment supporters are planning a demonstration right there on the front steps. Of course, among the glut of lawful citizens who are simply hoping to express their concerns over this constitutional erosion are some bad apples looking to stir the pot.
Authorities in Old Dominion have already caught wind of at least one violent plot to storm the Capitol itself. Now, with less than 48 hours before the event begins, an even more terrifying plan has been disrupted.
Authorities also confirmed they arrested three other men in Georgia this week who are allegedly linked to the same violent, white-supremacist group, called “the Base.” The Georgia men were arrested Wednesday for plotting to murder a Georgia couple, the Floyd County, Ga., police department said Friday.
Another member of the Base arrested in Wisconsin allegedly vandalized a Racine, Wis., synagogue, federal authorities said in court documents.
Governor Ralph Northam has declared a state of emergency and enacted a temporary ban on carrying any weaponry on Capitol grounds – including firearms.
