Well the media got it completely wrong....again. Chick-fil-a is now said to be caving to the Chicago thuggery of Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno, but they aren't.
Ald. Proco "Joe" Moreno, 1st, said the restaurant has agreed to include a statement of respect for all sexual orientations in an internal document and promised that its not-for-profit arm would not contribute money to groups that oppose gay marriage.
Though Moreno said he scored a "big win," the company made nearly identical pledges in a July 19 Facebook post that went up even before Moreno took issue with Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy's opposition to gay marriage.
The statement of respect also falls short of Moreno's goal of adding language opposing discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people to the company's employee handbook.
The problem with the statement? Well, the Tribune makes it sound as if Chick-fil-a is involved in supporting political groups. They also make it sound as if Chick-fil-a is caving to some sort of demands with publishment of an internal document stating that they do not discriminate. Anyone who has worked for Chick-fil-a knows that they do not discriminate. It didn't take a special internal document for this to be made known. On top of that, it was made clear in the video, provided by a hater of Chick-fil-a, Christian values, free speech and traditional, biblical marriage when he decided to assault a Chick-fil-a employee named Rachel. Rachel informed him politely that is exactly how Chick-fil-a treats all of their customers.
On Wednesday, I pointed out that all of these headlines seemed to be taking one group’s press release–the Civil Rights Agenda–along with Alderman Moreno’s comments in a Chicago Tribune article about a letter he received from the company, and printing them without checking their validity against the actual documents.
I did fact-check Alderman Moreno and the Civil Rights Agenda’s press release on Wednesday. And when I did, I determined that, at best, we had no way to corroborate what they were saying; at worst, they were falsifying and spinning what was, in fact, no change whatsoever from Chick-fil-A's original corporate giving policy. The actual quote from the letter to Alderman Moreno:
The WinShape Foundations is now taking a much closer look at the organizations it considers helping, and in that process will remain true to its stated philosophy of not supporting organizations with political agendas.
“There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago. That is incorrect. Chick-fil-A made no such concessions, and we remain true to who we are and who we have been."
Somehow the media just can't stand that Chick-fil-a will not cave to their bullying practices and they will stand on their principles no matter what is said about them. They will also continue in the spirit of the Lord Jesus as they serve people with great food no matter what their political affiliation, ethnicity or sexual perversion for that matter and they will continue to do it with a smile because, as they say, "It's their pleasure to serve." I actually think we might need to just set up a monthly Chick-fil-a day just to show people like Moreno just how much money his city is losing for its bigotry and unAmerican practice.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook, Google Plus, & Twitter.
