McConnell breaks silence on new gun laws, and 2A proponents should be furious

Second amendment proponents are reeling after President Trump indicated his support for enhanced gun laws, following a pair of mass shootings in Ohio and Texas over the weekend.

The Commander in Chief has intimated that he would be willing to work with Congress on pushing new, harsher “red flag” laws that allow for citizens to reports their fellow citizens’ behavior to the authorities.  If deemed inappropriate, Americans could soon have their guns confiscated and Second Amendment rights suspended based on any number of factors, some of which make perfect sense.

We don’t want violent domestic abusers to own guns, nor do we wish for the suicidal to have unfettered access to firearms.

But, what about someone with a dark sense of humor?  Or perhaps someone that you just don’t like?  What about someone whose home you’d like to rob?  You could simply call the authorities and have their guns taken away “pending due process”.

Worse still, with the FBI now labeling “conspiracy theorists” as a domestic terror threat, what happens if, (God forbid), we as Americans unearth something that causes us to rise up against tyranny? Would our knowledge of this hidden evil be grounds to have us disarmed?

To make matter ever more desperate, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is now claiming that new regulations regarding “assault” weapons could be on the congressional docket come the fall.

The Courier-Journal reports that McConnell was a guest on the Louisville, KY, Terry Meiners Show where he said, “What we can’t do is fail to pass something,” adding, “The urgency of this is not lost on any of us.”

NPR reports that McConnell addressed an “assault weapons” ban, saying: “We had that ban for about a 10-year period. There’s a good deal of dispute about whether it actually had an impact or not. It’s certainly one of the front and center issues. I think … probably background checks and red flags will probably lead the discussion. But a lot of other things will come up as well.”

Remember folks; the Second Amendment is an insurance policy against an out-of-control government, and we won’t need it until we need it.

Without this right to bear arms, we are helpless against any government, foreign or domestic.
