When I was in high school, there was one teacher who attended many rock n roll concerts with us, but I can't remember any school employee singing any song by themselves. However, the students at Souderton High School got a treat when Becky Alderfer, one of the ladies that serves lunch to the students, stepped up to the mic to provide a little Christmas cheer with her version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
The 52-year-old Alderfer gave an unexpected performance before a cafeteria full of teens at an event that was put on by the students in which teachers sang to raise money for the United Nations Club.
According to NBC Philadelphia:
"I know what a wonderful voice she has," said boss Pam Forster. "So my staff was like, 'Well, let's see if we can get her up there.'"
When Alderfer hit — and held — that first big note in Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, she transformed the teen chatter of a school cafeteria into screams, hoots and "who knew?!" applause.
"The lunch ladies were excited and I dedicated the song to them," Alderfer said. "I thought it [the song] had a nice message and I felt like I knew it well enough that I could get through it."
Though it was not Alderfer's idea to sing, it isn't like it was her first rodeo. She has served as the music director at the church her father pastors in Lansdale for more than 30 years. She also sang in the choir and school productions at Souderton High School.
"I can count on my hand how many times I've done karaoke," Alderfer said. "It's a little nerve-racking. It works if you can find a song you're really familiar with; otherwise it might be a disaster for anyone!"
While I'm no fan of the United Nations, and don't exactly know if the club has any affiliation with the anti-American, anti-Christian organization, and am not a fan of public schools, Ms. Alderfer's talent is undeniable and it's refreshing to see such talent on display, especially singing "Merry Christmas" in a government run public indoctrination center! Well done, Ms. Alderfer!Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook, Google Plus, & Twitter. You can also get Freedom Outpost delivered to your Amazon Kindle device here.
