Can you believe that American flags are, for the most part, not made in America? Furthermore, can you believe that the American government would not purchase American flags from American companies? Well, it's true and the day before America celebrates her independence, lawmakers called on the House to pass a bill that would require the government to purchase flags made in the good old U.S.A.
The Los Angeles Times reports,
So ask sponsors of the All-American Flag Act, introduced in response to the $3.6 million in imports of U.S. flags, mostly from China.
"We should do all we can to support American manufacturing and job creation, especially when it comes to our most treasured of patriotic symbols — the American flag," said Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat whose state of Ohio is home to U.S. flag makers.
It was not immediately clear why the bill has yet to come up for a vote in the House, which approved the measure in 2010. That bill never came before the Senate before the session ended.
Rep. Bruce Braley (D-IA), who is the House's bill's chief sponsor, declared in a statement, "It's time for the House to act."
Citing the Census Bureau, the LA Times said that imports of American flags last year were valued at $3.6 million, with $3.3 million of them coming from China.
Does anyone else believe like I do and think we should not only declare independence from an ever intrusive federal government, but also from those we are in debt to, Communist China?Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook, Google Plus, & Twitter.
