New York is about to see millions of dollars in economic activity leave their state due to the tyrannical gun laws, known as the NY SAFE Act, that were signed into law earlier this year. Kahr Arms has decided to pick up and leave Rockland County, New York and head across the border to Pennsylvania.
Kahr Arms specifically cites the unconstitutional SAFE Act as the reasons they are leaving.
The Times Union reports:
The trouble, at least for New York State: The gun manufacturer, currently based in Rockland County, is expanding across the border in Pennsylvania, and in the process will be moving its headquarters out of the Empire State. The reason, according to a corporate official, can be found in the swift passage last January of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s SAFE gun control law.
It wasn’t so much that the measure bans certain kinds of guns and magazines, the company said. Instead, it was the suddenness with which the law was passed — less than 24 hours after being released to the public — leaving Kahr’s executives to wonder what kind of unforeseen regulations or restrictions might lie ahead.
“One of our big concerns was, OK, the SAFE Act was passed in the middle of the night. You wake up the next morning and boom, that was it,” said Frank Harris, Kahr’s vice president of sales and marketing. “We just felt like, gee, if they can do this, what can they do next?
Rich Azzopardi, Governor Andrew Cuomo’s spokesman said, “The SAFE Act keeps assault weapons out of the hands of potentially dangerous individuals, and institutes the type of background checks supported by 90 percent of the country. The company’s decision was its own to make.”
Frankly, 90 percent of the country doesn’t agree with such background checks and to top it off, this doesn’t keep any weapons out of the hands of potentially dangerous people.
However, it has resulted in oppressing law abiding citizens such as Gregory Dean, who was arrested for having 9 bullets in his gun, or David Lewis, who had his guns confiscated simply because he once took anti-anxiety medication. Lewis’ situation changed with the help of attorney Jim Tresmond who filed suit and the New York State police ultimately ended up admitting a major mistake in confiscating Lewis’ guns.
Cuomo admitted that allowing a three-day public review would have killed the momentum behind his gun control bill.
“Nothing like that will ever happen without a message of necessity,” he said.
Cuomo also put up $500 for people to snitch on their fellow New Yorkers regarding possible illegal guns.
According to Mr. Harris, the company is in the final stages of purchase 620 acres of land in an industrial park in Blooming Grove, Pennsylvania, which is about 30 minutes from where they had originally planned to expand in Port Jervis. They are making sure that the water and sewer lines, as well as other infrastructure are ready before completing the purchase.
Following the passage of NY SAFE Act, company leaders went over and took a look in Pennsylvania. Harris said, “We went over to Pennsylvania almost on a fluke. We got a very positive response.”
Unlike Remington, Kahr is attempting to stay true to the Second Amendment and voicing their protest with their feet and their dollars. Firearms manufacturer Serbu has also decided not to sell their rifles to NYPD.
Kahr Arms racks up $100 million in sales each year and their new 620 acre facility could add 100 new jobs to their company. Sounds really good for Pennsylvanians and bad for New York. It makes you wonder how many will be unemployed in New York following the move. It was founded and operated by Justin Moon, the fourth son of the infamous Son Myung Moon. The company also owns the Thompson, Auto-Ordnance and Magnum Research lines. They also have facilities in Massachusetts and Minnesota, which they will continue operating.
Citizens, sheriffs and veterans have blasted the sweeping gun measure for good reason. It has also sparked the Armed Citizen Project to pursue going into New York in order to arm and train citizens with free shotguns. It looks like it might just take a small revolution in New York to put tyrants in their place.
