Mr. Trump listening to Mr. Bush’s reply (1:22)
In an incident reminiscent of the “flip-flop” criticism used by former President George W. Bush against John Kerry in 2004, Mr. Bush called Mr. Trump a “chaos candidate,” saying that Mr. Trump’s views on a temporary ban on Islamic immigration would jeopardize American national security and prevent the US from destroying ISIS.
If we are going to ban all Muslims, how are we going to get them to be part of a coalition to destroy ISIS?
This is not a serious proposal. It will push the Arab world away from us at a time whenwe need to re-engage with them to create a strategy to destroy ISIS. Donald is great at the one liners but he is a chaos candidate, and would be a chaos president, and he would not be the commander in chief we need to keep our country safe.
Speaking like a true executive, Mr. Trump unflinchingly responded:
Jeb doesn’t really believe I’m unhinged. He said that because his campaign has been a total disaster. Nobody cares, and frankly, I”m the most solid person up here. I build a tremendous company, and all I want to do is to make America great again. I don’t want our country to be taken away from us and that’s what’s happening. The policies that we have suffered under other presidents have been a disaster for our country. We want to make America great again, and Jeb, in all fairness, doesn’t believe that.
In all fairness to Mr. Bush, Mr. Trump’s comments about Jeb’s dead campaign have been echoed by not a few media outlets:
Yet persisting still, Jeb uncomfortably stuttered, flinched, and attempted to defend his support of unchecked, unrestricted Muslim immigration to the US, suggesting that we needed a “serious” proposal which includes “dialogue.”
Perhaps Mr. Bush is scared that if he doesn’t support unchecked Muslim immigration the same wealthy Muslim families that made his family rich at the cost of our civil liberties and the lives of American soldiers will be unhappy.
As far a Mr. Trump’s statements about Islam, he notes on his own website that he is calling for a ban on Muslim immigration until the immigration system can be organized to prevent giving visas to potential terrorists, such as in the San Bernardino terrorist attack.
