When it comes to American politicking, controversy can be quite the asset.
We’ve seen this time and again from the radical left, who have by and large employed rage and chaos in order to bolster their media currency. All manner of bizarre and outlandish themes have emerged in this war of perception, not the least of which have conjured the horrendous and unfathomable tenets of anti-semitism; some outright, others cloaked in a veil of “resistance” to President Trump.
For members of “the squad”, this dichotomy of anti-Jewish sentiment has come from all corners. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has denigrated the plight of the Jewish people by comparing The Holocaust to American immigration enforcement – a bit of sneaky anti-semitism cloaked in sensationalism that has been rarely rebuked by the mainstream media.
For others, however, their disdain for Israel is far more obvious – and has been formally recognized as such by the nation itself.
Israel said Thursday that it will bar two Democratic congresswomen from entering the country ahead of a planned visit over their support for a Palestinian-led boycott movement, a decision announced shortly after President Donald Trump tweeted that it would “show great weakness” to allow them in.
The move to bar Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota from visiting the close American ally appeared to be unprecedented, and marked a deep foray by Israel into America’s bitterly polarized politics. It is also a sharp escalation of Israel’s campaign against the international boycott movement.
The language of the rebuff was unmistakable.
In a statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is “open to critics and criticism,” except for those who advocate boycotts against it.
“Congresswomen Tlaib and Omar are leading activists in promoting the legislation of boycotts against Israel in the American Congress,” Netanyahu charged. He said their itinerary “revealed that they planned a visit whose sole objective is to strengthen the boycott against us and deny Israel’s legitimacy.”
Tlaib and Omar have been on the receiving end of near-constant criticism during their short congressional careers, with this latest international incident amplifying the controversy that they employ to remain in the media’s immediate purview.
