Hypocrisy: Newspaper Hires Armed Guards After Publishing Gun Owners Addresses

Last week a New York paper, The Journal News, published the names and addresses of gun permit holders in two counties on its website and threatened to publish more. Some even took to Facebook and posted a picture of the house where the columnist that wrote the article lives, with the address on the picture. Now The Journal News feels threatened and has hired armed guards for protection.

Well two can play that game and The Journal News quickly came under the same kind of attack they had laid out against innocent citizens, whose privacy they violated. As the old saying goes, “What’s good for the goose, is good for the gander.” The hypocrisy of the left is sometimes actually quite comical.

The addresses of the editors and executives were published in similar fashion to that of the article that unveiled where gun permit owners lived.

So how did the paper respond? According to the Rockland County Times,

A Clarkstown police report issued on December 28, 2012, confirmed that The Journal News has hired armed security guards from New City-based RGA Investigations and that they are manning the newspaper’s Rockland County headquarters at 1 Crosfield Ave., West Nyack, through at least tomorrow, Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

According to police reports on public record, Journal News Rockland Editor Caryn A. McBride was alarmed by the volume of “negative correspondence,” namely an avalanche of phone calls and emails to the Journal News office, following the newspaper’s publishing of a map of all pistol permit holders in Rockland and Westchester.

Due to apparent safety concerns, the newspaper then decided to hire RGA Investigations to provide armed personnel to man the location.

Apparently Ms. McBride received an email in which the writer wondered, “what McBride would get in her mail now.”

The police said the email was not a threat. Clearly the point was made of the stupid decision to post for the public the names and addresses of those with gun permits. Now Ms. McBride and others are crying? Just like bleeding heart liberals, isn’t it? They are victims.

New York State Senator Greg Ball has already introduced state legislation to make such records off-limits to the public and Rockland County legislators led by Frank Sparaco (R) will soon introduce a bipartisan-sponsored resolution with a similar intent.

Let it be a lesson to all those that want to start messing with people’s liberty. Your name, address and a lot of information is widely available on the internet. Furthermore, most of these liberals put it there on their own, so there is no invasion of privacy.
