Today Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is testifying on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee about the attacks that took place in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012. Clinton was confronted on the fact that United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice told five Sunday talk shows that the attack sprang from a protest over an anti-muslim YouTube video. When challenged on the issue of whether the attacks were the result of a video protest or a planned terrorist attack, she finally erupted, blurting out, “What difference, at this point, does it make?!”
When pressed on Rice’s comments, Clinton declared that she didn’t know of any reports that contradicted Rice’s talking points which she propagated on the five Sunday shows. Clinton said that the “information was still developing.” Perhaps what she meant was that the administration’s story was developing.
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) broke in asking “Do you disagree with me that a simple phone call to those evacuees wouldn’t have ascertained immediately that there was no protest. I mean, that was a piece of information that could have been easily obtained within hours, if not days.”
Clinton then responded, “Senator, when you’re in these positions, the last thing you want to do is interfere with any other process going on. That’s number one.”
Johnson said that he realized “that’s a good excuse.”
“No, it’s the fact,” Clinton stated.
“Number two,” Clinton continued, recommending the senator read both reports that had been issued on Benghazi, classified and unclassified. “Now I have no doubt that they were terrorists. They were militants. They attacked us. They killed our people, but what was going on and why they were doing what they were doing is still unknown.”
“No, no, no, no,” Johnson interrupted. “Again, we were misled that there were supposedly protests, that something sprang out of that — that assaults sprang out of that, and that was easily ascertained that the was not the facts, and the American people could have known that within days and they didn’t know that.”
Clinton, seeing that the point was being leveled against her attempted to shame the Senator and finally blurted out, “With all due respect, the fact is, we had four dead Americans! Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night and decided they’d go kill some Americans?! What difference, at this point, does it make?! It is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again, Senator.”
“Now honestly, I will do my best to answer your questions about this, but the fact is, people were trying in real time to get to the best information,” Hillary continued.
“But you know, to be clear, it is — from my perspective — less important today, looking backwards, as to why these militants decided they did it, than to find them and bring them to justice and then maybe we’ll figure out what was going on in the meantime.”
Her statements indicate that she has no desire to find the truth about why the attacks occurred. That would ultimately lead to who was involved. One needs to find a motive for the attacks and this is just as important today as it was when the attacks took place on September 11.
Johnson did well in getting her to expose the fact that she doesn’t care why the attacks took place at all and she said so. Obviously the Left will demonize the Wisconsin Senator for holding their poster child’s feet to the fire and there is no doubt they will play the gender card and attack him for attempting to hold a woman accountable. I say if it’s too hot in the State Department’s kitchen for a woman, they shouldn’t put one in there.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook and Twitter, and follow our friends at RepublicanLegion.com.
