Americans are an historically rugged breed of people. We have survived world events far more troubling and unpredictable than COVID-19 before, and we will do it again. In this time of increased need, however, it will take an all-hands-on-deck approach in order to mitigate the damage that this will do to our society.
We are already being asked to practice social distancing, and to limit what gatherings we do participate it in to rather small groups; less than 10 according to the CDC.
And while there is certainly plenty of doom and gloom to go around, we can hold our heads high knowing that our government is working overtime on some solutions to the crisis.
Chief Pentagon Spokesman Jonathan Rath Hoffman said:
“We are looking at a number of different options with regard to resources and what we can do. We’ve done that analysis and are continuing to do it, and…it can be provided up to the president and the White House for making decisions as requests come in.”
Air Force Brig. Gen. Paul Fredrichs, surgeon at the Joint Staff, added: “Yes we do have plans looking at the capabilities that we have and then if we’re asked to provide them or if we’re tasked to say what’s in the realm of the possible, we can look at those plans.”
The Pentagon won’t be able to provide anything and everything that we’ll need, but their support during this trying time will certainly be helpful.
