These Stories Are Rarely Reported In The Mainstream Media. In Fact, Most Americans Never Hear About Them. But Events Like These Take Place Every…A Good Guy With A Gun Stops A Bad Guy With A Gun, And Lives Are Saved.

The statistics are overwhelming.

“According to the National Safety Council (2014 figures) – Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year — or about 6,850 times a day. This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives.”

“Of the 2.5 million times citizens use their guns to defend themselves every year, the overwhelming majority merely brandish their gun or fire a warning shot to scare off their attackers. Less than 8% of the time, a citizen will kill or wound his/her attacker.”

“As many as 200,000 women use a gun every year to defend themselves against sexual abuse.”

“What about states that have more guns out in the open vs. those that do not?”

“It is important to note that in the states that allow open carry, violent crime was 23 percent lower, the murder rate was 5 percent lower, the aggravated assault rate was 23 percent lower and robbery rates were 36 percent lower.”

A mass shooting triggers a very predictable sequence of events, which will dominate the national news for the next two weeks. Emotional cries from the left to confiscate our guns and theatrical demands from Democratic lawmakers to toughen our gun laws all contribute to the ensuing media circus. This is especially true if children are involved.

When a good guy with a gun stops a crime, and lives are saved, there may be a brief mention of it on the news. Or it may elicit remarks from liberal activists such as, “if the perpetrator didn’t have access to a gun in the first place, this would never have happened.” Then, it’s forgotten.

Liberals will never admit it. In fact, at CNN’s Town Hall on gun violence last week, the audience booed when NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch mentioned a rape victim who said she wished she had had a gun to defend herself. Yes, those ardent supporters of the #MeToo movement actually mocked her. Their hatred of Dana Loesch was palpable. To her credit, she remained composed during what appeared to be a modern day lynch mob.

In the midst of all the rhetoric and the shaming and the blaming from the left in the wake of the Parkland, Florida school shooting, I decided to look at actual cases when armed citizens prevented a serious crime or stopped a crime in progress. And there are so many to choose from.

A January 2017 New York Times editorial stated, “The grim truth is that concealed-carry permit holders are rarely involved in stopping crime.”

In response, Breitbart’s Awr Hawkins prepared a list of 24 cases in the previous six weeks when a concealed-carry permit holder did indeed stop a crime.

Many of these cases involved home invasions of individuals who appeared helpless.

“A wheelchair-bound female homeowner in West Cleveland pulled a gun and told two home invasion suspects she would use it if they continued trying to make entry. The woman—an apparent amputee—said that she “looked at the door and there was a man, right there, right outside looking like he was going for my door.” She said a second man was “cutting the screen on a window of her garage.” Both suspects fled when she showed her gun.”

“A 17-year-old girl in Spokane, Washington, armed herself with one of her father’s guns then literally chased a home intrusion suspect out of the family’s home. The girl—Kimber Wood—heard the suspect enter the house and said his “eyes got really wide” when he found himself staring down the barrel of her gun.”

“A grandmother who was home alone opened fire on two home invasion suspects, killing one. The incident occurred in Katy, Texas, where the suspects allegedly entered via the garage.  According to ABC 13, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas Gilliland said, “Both [suspects] were armed with pistols. She confronted both suspects, retrieved a handgun and fired several times at both subjects.” One died at the scene while the second jumped a fence and fled.”

If any of these women had been your daughter, mother or grandmother, you would have been very pleased they had the means to defend themselves. Had they not been armed, the endings of these stories would have been different.

Most of the cases cited in the Breitbart article saved the lives of one to four people. However, there are many examples of concealed-carry permit holders saving many lives because they carried a weapon.

You may recall the November 2017 mass shooting that took place at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. 26 people were killed and 20 wounded.

The killer, Devin Kelley, was shooting the wounded when Stephen Willeford showed up with a rifle. Willeford’s quick actions forced Kelley to stop his attack, presumably saving the lives of the twenty wounded and possibly many more…It is only too bad that someone with a concealed handgun permit wasn’t already at the church.  We may never have heard of the shooting — national news stories are virtually never done on permit holders stopping mass public shootings.

Shortly after the Orlando mass shooting in May 2016, a shooter opened fire at a nightclub in South Carolina, where concealed handguns are legal. After three people were wounded, a man shot the shooter in the leg with a concealed weapon, ending the rampage. Again, the loss of life could have been staggering.

One of the most amazing stories took place at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs in 2007 when an armed guard, Jeanne Assam, stopped what would have been a huge loss of life by shooting the killer, Matthew Murray.

“I took cover. I identified myself. I engaged him. I took him down,” the 42-year-old former law officer and volunteer church security guard said.”

“I just said, ‘Holy Spirit, be with me.’ I wasn’t even shaking,” Assam said. “I give the credit to God. I say this very humbly. God was with me.”

Aside from the shooter, two parishioners were killed and two wounded. If Assam had not had a weapon, the carnage would have been catastrophic.

I could cite thousands of similar stories, but the point is clear. Guns save lives. And it’s unbelievable that liberals will not admit it.

John R. Lott, Jr., a Fox contributor and well-known defender of the Second Amendment, points out “how politicized the FBI became during the Obama Administration.”

“A 2014 FBI report claims that only once between 2000 and 2013 did a concealed handgun permit holder stop a public shooting (they claimed to look at all cases where guns were fired in public that weren’t part of a gang fight or some other crime). This single case occurred in Winnemucca, Nevada in May 2008, when a customer with a permit fatally shot an attacker who had just killed two people…They didn’t even include the 2007 church shooting in Colorado Springs, where a killer had already taken two lives at the church before being stopped by a permit holder.”

“Many times, police, sheriffs, and prosecutors have gone on the record and credited permit holders with saving many lives. These attacks didn’t get national news attention, but they would have been on front pages everywhere if a permit holder hadn’t intervened.”

Yes, liberals, it would certainly be lovely if we lived in a world where guns were unnecessary. But the reality is that human nature being what it is, firearms are vital to both national defense and self-defense. Weapons have been as essential to human survival throughout history as food and shelter. Weapons allow us to maintain our freedom, without which, life wouldn’t be worth living. Because “bad” guys will never give up their weapons, no one can. This is not rocket science.
