As recently reported by Fox News, in response to more states relaxing rules regarding open-carry firearms laws, some in the gun control lobby have seen fit to put law-abiding gun owners in danger by urging people to call the police on anyone carrying a gun in public.
“If you see someone carrying a firearm in public—openly or concealed—and have ANY doubts about their intent, call 911 immediately and ask police to come to the scene,” the far far far left gun control group Coalition to Stop Gun Violence wrote on its Facebook page.
Having “any doubts” about a gun owner’s intent leaves a lot to speculation, rationalization, and of course, the observer’s agenda.
Hardcore leftists certainly have an agenda. Liberals, as well as having the tendency to think they know what’s best for everyone, generally believe that no one should have guns except for the police and military.
Which amounts to a police state…
OK, so they’re stupid – but that doesn’t solve the problem of their being likely to alert law enforcement whenever they see a law-abiding, open-carrying citizen, no doubt employing undue histrionics calculated to drive the armed responders’ level of anxiety to DEFCON ONE.
This practice is being likened to SWATting, wherein an individual places a call to law enforcement, claiming to be the target – usually someone the caller doesn’t like – and saying they’re holed up in their home with an AK-47 or something equally formidable, hostages, and buckets of ammunition.
This has resulted in SWAT teams kicking in targets’ doors at 3:00 AM, with the attendant traumatic results. To my knowledge, there have been no fatalities to date, but that could change. According to Fox, “Many online harassment campaigns have been known to participate in the practice.” So, anyone with a grudge, and who knows how to circumvent Caller ID and tracing systems can, in theory, bring down the local SWAT team on anyone they choose.
For the record: Anyone who would engage in that practice – which obviously could get people killed – should be summarily shot in the head, in my opinion.
I was SWATted on April 15, 2013 – the day of the Boston Marathon Bombing. An associate of a certain domestic terrorist initiated the action with Yours Truly as the target. It is only owing to the fact that mine is a small community and many of the law enforcement people know me that it resulted in a very brief (though very tense) situation with local police, rather than the bloodbath that may have ensued had they kicked in my door.
Liberal anti-gunners tend to be extremely squeamish little reproductive orifices to start with, so one can only imagine how many of them will “over-react” upon seeing a citizen lawfully open-carrying a firearm, now that they have the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence’s permission to do so.
It is not the first time supporters of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence and other gun control advocates have pressed for the public to call cops on legal gun owners. An October 2014 National Review article found that the Facebook pages and websites of groups including the coalition, Moms Demand Action and GunFreeZone.net included numerous comments from the public advocating that people call the police and intentionally exaggerate what they see in the hopes of getting cops to stop those open-carrying guns.

Can you believe this? Yeah – it’s OK if they get a few people killed, as long as they meet their objective.
Ladd Everitt, director of communications for the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, told Fox News the following: “In an era in which individuals are being allowed to carry loaded guns on our streets with no permit, background check or required training, it is common sense for concerned citizens to call 911 when they see an armed individual whose intentions are unclear.”
I’d like to hear someone ask Mr. Everitt just how much gun violence the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has actually stopped.
